How to identify L397s .....
How can you easily distinguish a L397 adult from L002, L169 and L306.
Are there any unique characteristics that only L397s have. What should one look for in a L397?
Thanks in advance for your help.

L397 has a finely reticulated pattern on the snout and has rusty orangish red stripes. That combination will distinguish it from the others you mention.

@Fundulopanchax76
That fish looks like a L306 to my untrained eye. Certainly not a L397. I'll let the experts chime in on this.

Not L306 . That species has fewer bands on the body and bold stripes on the face that form a 'keyhole' (more or less) between the eyes (claustellifer means keyhole I believe). It is really quite distinctive.
We have seen this particular picture before and @bekateen pointed us in the right direction iirc.

Well noted that it is not a 306. What is it then?

L271 seems to be a fit I think.
