Sexing Tatia Intermedia

Hello Everyone.

I just got a group of 5 Tatia Intermedia and they are doing very well. Eating like pigs and doing everything that they should!!

It does not seem too difficult to sex them on paper, but doing it in the tank is really difficult! They do NOT stop moving!
So my question is, how do you guys do this?

• Net the fish?

• Take pictures/video and freeze frames?

• Something else?

Would appreciate any input at all.

LOL. Welcome to the world of woodcats!

If they hide in tubes, you can try adding a clear tube (like a sponge filter uplift) to your tank to trap them in for inspection. I would avoid nets if possible, so as to reduce risk of snagging a pectoral or dorsal fin spine in the netting and causing injury.

Videos on a good enough camera that when you pause the video you can see them clearly enough.
