23rd August :: Migration to dedicated server
All~
It's been a long time coming, but this site will move to its own dedicated server in the next 30 hours. I've been running test sites there for a week and it looks good. There will be some downtime here and there but no data will be lost (unless you hit submit at a very unlucky time - in which case use your browsers back button, wait 10 mins and try submit again).
If we continue on the virtualised sever we have, it will have to scale beyond the point where it's cost effective, I've taken this step as every year since we started this journey, the site grows as autumn (fall) approaches. Growth peaks in November and January and February usually also see significant growth.
Once we are on the new environment for a few days I will also be applying a forum upgrade too - more on that later.
Cheers,
Jools

Re: 23rd July :: Migration to dedicated server
I too suspect that Jools haven't:
1. Made an announcement 11 months in advance.
2. Built a time-machine to move back in time a month.

OK, so everything has been moved and (a) it's quicker (on comparable connections) and (b) it works! I don't think there was more than 3 minutes downtime in total.

Re: 23rd August :: Migration to dedicated server
From the lack of activity, do we take it it's not working Jools?

If "Lack of activity" means the activity view on the home-page, then it's broken, yes - this is mentioned here:RickE wrote:From the lack of activity, do we take it it's not working Jools?
http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =1&t=33813
and here:

See the second thread for a workaround.
