PC Day Out - US

Post by Shane »

Linus just pointed out that PC sponser Stephen Tanner will be giving the below talk at That Fish Place on 17 September. Linus and I are making plans to head up from the DC area. Great chance to see Stephen, visit one of the largest fish stores in the US, and meet each other in real life. If there is enough interest, the PC contingent could meet up for lunch or something before Stephen's talk.

“Plecos: Let’s Breed Them Before They Vanish ”by Stephan Tanner

Stephan has been an active fish keeper since the mid 1980s. Born in Switzerland, he got his first tropical fish tank when he was 14 years old. Stephan’s interest in biology earned him a master's degree in Behavioral Ecology and Molecular Biology (1995) and finally a Ph.D. in Human Molecular Genetics (1998). During his undergraduate years he also worked in the Spiezer Zoo, a local fish store with quality fish and great customer service. He became a member of the German Barb, Tetra, Loach, and Catfish association in 1992, a crowd of friendly and highly devoted specialists. In 1994, a new editor for the quarterly publication BSSW Report was needed and Stephan held this position until the end of 2006. Stephan occasionally travels to Germany for fish related meetings and to visit friends that he has made throughout the fabulous community. Stephan is a big fan of tetras, barbs, loaches, and catfish. In 2006, he founded Swiss Tropicals LLC, breeding and selling fish as well as Poret foam and B&H Jetlifters

That sounds like a great fill in for the off year of the catfish convention!

I've talked and bought to/from Stephan several times and he is very knowledgeable. Always a thrill to talk to.

If you want some great family style comfort food go to Plain and Fancy. I wish I could join you today. I will be giving a Cory presentation there in November.

Will post more, but a very fun day. Stephan gave a very nice presentation and Trent (Plecocrazy) and I hung out all day. Neither of us could stay too long as we both had long drives home. Mine was only 2.5 hours... Trent's around 10 hours.

They have a very nice local club up there and made sure Trent and I felt welcome.

I did manage to bring a few fish home and will post on this later.
