To the electronics nerds...mechanical nerd needs help!

Post by grokefish »

I am looking for these components but so far have drawn a blank.
Anyone know where I can source these from either new or from old electronic equipment?
Preferably UK or somewhere that will ship to I.
thanks in advance!

2 unpolarised capacitors, 500 micro Farads each
4 unpolarised capacitors, 1000 micro Farads each
2 transformers 1:5 ratio for 110-220 Volts.
One more bucket of water and the farce is complete.

Big capacitors like that tend to be polarized, because they are usually electrolyte variants. I had a quick look at Maplin and RS, and both are all "DC" variants.

I did find these:

Thats 249uF @ 400VAC. They are only around £100. You could use 4 to make a 1000uF and 2 to make 500uF (give or take 4%). [Note that the size is about the same as 5 tins of tuna stacked together - 121 x 164mm, so you get a lot of capacitor for your money].

Have you found a recipe for a flux capacitor? ;)
