Rio Japurá

Post by racoll »

Photos from recent trip to the Rio Japurá, also known as the Caquetá in Colombia. Collections were made not far from the Colombian border in fact. The river system is vast, completely unpopulated, and very poorly surveyed, so it was a privilege to visit a place like this.

It looks like a productive trip, but actually the fishing was very hard, as it was peak high water season. I imagine in the low water season it would have been sensational. Once IDs are officially verified, all pics can go in the CLOG.

Unfortunately it was pretty much (or totally) dead by the time I got to photograph it, but yes, that would be cool to see.

It's a beaut, eh! Unfortunately they seemed to be very scarce/hard-to-collect, and we only found the one.

Awesome, there are a few new spp. in there. That Heptapterid with the golden collar is pictured in Baensch and I also collected in Peru. I think it is very widespread. Some great, odd, fishes.
