Just want to wish England good luck in their game against Portugal and don't forget you're playing against a bunch of first class cheats. I don't mind the Netherlands being kicked out of the tournament - they didn't play very well -but not like this.
Two advantages for England: two Portugese players are suspended for that game and Ivanov will not be the referee (suspended for life??)

Italy/Auatralia. A total joke, shoot the ref, Australia deserved to win, Totti deserves to go home in a body bag along with the ref. WTF is a ref from a tiny friggin island which hardly has a record of international success doing at this level of football? Answer: screwing things up, badly...

Khalid would have deserved a straight red card for his Ronaldo foul after 10 minutes or so...his bitching afterwards is totally rediculous. Everybody saw that the ref was bad...and hitting Figo with an elbow knowing that he'll drop is just plain stupid.

I really hope England doesnt get to the final because in the worst case (I h8 Klinsmann and the rediculous hype here) of Germany reaching the same I dont feel theyll be able to win. I think Spain will have a great chance if they are able to beat Brasil.

The other strain is just rediculous...if Ger beat Arg theyll have a wildcard for the final. Ita is just crap and youll have to wonder how a team like Ukr can get this far.
cheers

That match was more like "professional wrestling"(the fake kind) because the refs let it get out of control. I was expecting both sides to come out in tights and masks for the second half.

It's too bad the guy from Australia fell down and gave the guy from Italy the opportunity to create the foul. I agree it wasn't a foul, but he sure sold it. I don't know if you get the same video feed we do. They had a camera in Australia(I can't remember which city). They were expecting people to be depressed. The place went nuts and the announcers were very confused. The cameras were set up in the Little Italy section.

The way the Australia-Italy match went down probably represents part of the problem in the US with soccer. In a country where our domestic sports leagues value fair-play and attempt to minimize officiating error, the Italian dive kind of ruins what was a great game. Tim Cahill's quotes after the game sum it all up, the Aussies played hard and fair and were done in by a cheap attempt to influence the ref. No offense to the Italian team, but they were taking minimal contact and converting it into foul opportunities throughout the WC. And I think many Americans see that and are turned off of the game. We're supposed to play hard and to the fullest of an individual's ability - the Italians play hard and wait for their opponent to make an error. Yes, I realize that well-coached teams attempt to maximize their opponents' errors in every sport (whether football or futbol), but the penalty-awarding foul occurred after the Italian player was in the box AND had an opportunity to make a great play. Predictably, he found it easier/smarter to simply fall down. The way that game ended showed the difference between the sporting attitudes of both teams. And the gulf between soccer and a mass US audience.

I think you'll find that the italian teams misconduct has less to do with the sport in question than it does the italian "sporting" character. That kind of thing is not tolerated in the UK, germany, france, holland etc etc..

Actually the Scotsman should come in somewhere around 85th. If FIFA was grading the table, that is

Tough luck to Australia going out that way but that's football for you.

The best reaction to that finish I saw was when a camera panned to a group of aussie supporters and about twenty of them simultaneously dropped to the ground clutching their legs :D

Well, despite the present volatility within Italian football, I'm not sure about that.

France took the lead last night by a digusting and succesful attempt to influence the ref. While Henry goes down in my books as one of the finest players in the world, he went down yesterday after a robust challenge but clutching his head while the "blow" was to his stomach.

On the Portuguese V Holland match official, I'm going to support him as he had a very hard game to referee. He have a yellow card after 1m47s but that challenge injured a player to the point they had to be substituted. As you would expect it all kicked off after that.

The Italian / Aussie decision was a total disgrace mind you.

Yeah, but after you, I'm the leading scorer in the last round. Good teams starting slowly and a proliferation of cards have not done me well! Well, let's see what happens but I will not finish last in my own league! :-)

PS It does however look like my bet with Justin that I'd finish above him means I'll be shipping some Guinness out Washington State way...

I'm not too certain we deserve to be ranked anywhere in the top 25 ... chin up, Euro 2008 is coming up shortly. It is painful to see a quality program like Scotland fall so far from grace so fast. You guys have the players - what has happened?

Pretty simple really, we're not very good. Painful indeed, but then that is part of supporting Scotland! :-)

I'm not sure we really have had the players since the turn of the millennium it's been bad. We also made a poor choice of manager for the national side, our national team has underperformed and our clubs didn't bring on youngsters to the highest levels to sell them into better leagues. In the last year or so this has improved, but it's a slow turn.

The US v. Scotland friendly (last year, I think?) showed at least a few of the names that come out when mother country calls - Fletcher, Ferguson, that big guy from Everton ...

There does seem to be a lack of young Scots in the EPL. And the SPL, it seems to have turned into an MLS with a Rangers & Celtic, sadly. SPL games used to be a highlight to watch around here - now the caliber of that domestic league is sliding badly. I'd almost rather watch French soccer! Eek ...

I'd love to see scotland in the world cup, and I'd love even more to see them in the semis or finals. I may be english by birth, but I'm BRITISH at heart. To see another of the teams from our green & pleasant island make it to such heights would fill me with pride. But spare a thought for the basques, who due to spanish political pressure aren't even allowed a "national" team, despite the fact that they are the oldest european culture still with us. They do occaisionaly get to play a friendly international, but that's it

Ferguson, that big guy from Everton ...
Big Dunc, :headbang:

Problem was he fell out with the Scottish FA, (alledgedly) over them not stepping in when the police arrested him for an on the feild bust up, and he went to prison..mind you he went on to break an arm or two when he caught a burglar in his home :D
As we are talking about a world championship, here's a
Trivia Question:-
Which Former World champion and TV commentator & celebrity is big Dunc related to?

If there was another round or indeed if I had of made Schweinsteiger my captain for the last round I would have won. Justin and I were equal on rounds won but the Guinness is going west, well played the American!

New league for the new premiership season

I know some of you played the world cup already and know the rules. However they are very straightforwardâ?¦...

You pick a squad of 15 with a budget of £100 million. You canâ??t have more than 3 players from any one team. You pick your team for each game week from your squad. If someone doesnâ??t play, one of your subs will automatically take his place. You also pick a captain for each week, who will score double points. You can make one transfer per week. If you are happy to sacrifice some points, you can make additional transfers (4 points lost per additional transfer). If you canâ??t be bothered you can just leave your team the same each week.

Itâ??s really easy, doesnâ??t take long to get set up, and only really requires a few minutes of your time each week. As most of you sit at a desk all day, itâ??s not that much of a hardship to log on and tweak your team if necessary. The advantage of this game over the crappy Sun/Daily Record leagues is that some eeejit journalist doesnâ??t rate the players each week, hence determining your score. You simply get points for goals, assists and clean sheets. The top 3 players from each game also receive bonus points based on the Opta index.

I hope some of you will be interested in joining the league. The website is:

http://fantasy.premierleague.com

register, you can just auto select your team for now to get it logged on and then make as many changes as you like up until the start of the Premiership.

Click join league and enter:

6402-1658

It should come up â??Planet Premiershipâ??.

Hope to be competing with some of you there!
