It's probably going to take a little getting used to, but I definitely like the new digs!

I'm sure it runs better, but the appearance is rather different. This is indeed going to take some adapting to; most of all the fact that the username and information is on the right of the post instead of the left. Any way we can play with some elements of the appearance in our own settings?

As posted elsewhere, there are many changes that Jools can make to format and change the forum "look" overall. I don't think as a user you can change any of that. Jools wanted us to try the forum to see that it generally works BEFORE making "style" changes, from what I understand.

I actually like the new format. Lets give Jools and the new format some time before jumping all over him... after all this is something he does on his private time, and furthermore most of the costs come out of his own pocket book.

I've been fiddling with the style a bit this morning as it appears more important to some of you than the new features in place like being able to upload attachments, cc'ing and forwarding pms and all that...

That isn't actually on the forum but is on the main page. If I've understood what you mean correctly - anyway, it will be reappearing as soon as I get it working again on the new forum...

I do like most of the changes

The format
The speed

perfect

However, I felt sorry I had to log in first. Not that I mind reentering for the first time my user ID, and I expected the forum would have been unable te retrieve my earlier log ins, but I'm sorry to forum looks unaccessible unless logged in.

If so, that would be a pity, because so much info can be found here, I think it better be available for everyone, myself

Oh goodness, I'm sorry if my first post came across as jumping all over Jools. I didn't mean it as anything personal. :-X I am just so used to the look of the old board and this one is so different.

I do appreciate everything that is done to keep this site up and running. I don't post often, but I have learned a lot - so much great information!

(I see a change has been made (alternating colors of replies) which makes it easier to see where one post ends and another one starts. :) )

I think they both look good. ONly thing I don't like is the profile of the person is on the right instead of left. Not used to that...

That shouldn't be the case at least after you have logged in to the new forum at least once, AFAIK, you can view the forums when not logged in.

It wasn't taken personally at all - and neither should my reply - I forget not everyone was around the last time we went through this kind of change. However, I really appreciate all the feedback and it does help me prioritise things (anyone notice I've not got the CotM done this month yet?). ;-)

As I know from the first site redesign back when I put the forum in first time around, you will never please everyone. I think I have a reasonable idea of what looks good but I am also keen to avoid the site looking bland and "just like every other one".

It DOES take some getting used to, but change is a constant I'm afraid - if I keep site changes like this down to one every five or seven years, I think I'm doing OK!

Yeah, you're not the first person to mention that, but we (or, at least most of the users of this forum) naturally read from left to right and I personally like it as the text and not the profile info is the first thing that hits your eyes. Also, the greater use of vertical profile space means the "my cats" and all that kind of info can be expanded on in future again without over cluttering.

Random pics of your images in the cat-elog you say? Hmmmm.... ;-)

Is that the case when cookies are deleted on a regular basis? Seems like I have to log in everytime. I manually delete cookies as well as run two spyware programs.

I like the profile on the right ... I'd rather read the messages first.

The spyware programs don't have any impact. If you're worried enough to manually delete cookies, you're not going to be too concerned about having to log in everytime - which I think you will need to do.

Weird how?

If by load the pictures, you mean display pictures in a forum post, then there is a new feature that allows you to attach images to posts similar to how email attachments work. Use the "upload attachment" tab when you a writing a post.
