Re: Help ID please
It looks like a roughed up Bagridae or Pseudopimelodidae of some sort!

Will this help with ID? I don't think it's a Bagridae.

Hi
This is a Batrochoglanis sp. Possibly villosus though there are a couple of others that might possibly be found in that area.

Re: Help ID please
It's around 9 to 10 inch. B. villosus is only around 6 inch right?The.Dark.One wrote:Hi

No, I've had a villosus that was at least 7 and a friend in the Catfish Study Group had one even bigger.

Re: Help ID please
If I had to pick between a B. Villosus and some Cephalosilurus, I'd pick the former but the size, tentatively, points to the latter.
BTW, Cephalosilurus species are very hard to ID, IME. See a sample (starts with 2nd post on this page) http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... h&start=80... and then look up the reply/input on Waterwolves by Wolfgang, an acknowledged expert, linked in my last post.

Re: Help ID please
In Cephalosilurus the lower jaw is longer than the upper, whereas in Batrochoglanis they are equal or the upper jaw is longer. IMO this is a Batrochoglanis.
Re: Help ID please
Thx so much guys. Trying to get more pics first as due to work in cannot pick up the fish yet.
Anyway shop owner thinks I'm weird wanting to pass on the Flash Tiger for an unknown cat.

Re: Help ID please
With apologies to the OP for going a little off topic.

It depends on the specific T&C's of the website - they can be whatever they like. The default position can be argued as mutual copyright. That's to say you own it (and can post it where you like) and the site also owns it (and can do with it as they will). But, for the avoidance of doubt, read the T&Cs...Viktor Jarikov wrote:Also, once someone submits a post, it belongs to the forum, right?

not entirely; things are changingAlso, once someone submits a post, it belongs to the forum, right?
I don't know how it's legally fixed in the States, but in Europe the current view is that the material belongs to the author; in this case that is you
;)
that's why we had that thing with pics snatched from the Catelog and usaed by a Dutch store recently.
those pics are copyrighted by PC, but of course with consent of the owners (!).
in a fair number of cases that turned out to be one and the same because pics made by Jools were used
but if the reply on the Waterwolves-forum is written by you, you are the author and you own what you create.
there's no law forbidding you to post your own 1 story or reply on 2 fora.
so yes, you can put it up here as well
it's a different thing if you copy n paste an entire topic with replies from other people though.
then the other forum does have a fair case to protest.
;)

Re: Help ID please
And you are allowed to quote other peoples copyrighted text "for purposes of criticism or comment" under "fair use". This of course, does not mean that you can reprint all of John Grisham's novels with a simple comment of "I think this book is great"... It needs to be relevant to show your comment/criticism.

Re: Help ID please
They are night time predators with a surprising capacity to consume fish - anything half its size or less is a potential meal. Tankmates need to be carefully chosenelindra wrote:Also what are they like in a community tank?

I don't think this gets as huge as the L. alexandri and I think it's already at max size at 8 inch?

A bit more active nocturnally but temperment wise , yes, similar. I couldn't be sure of max size but 8" would be the biggest i know of - maybe steve (the dark one) can say how big his friends is.elindra wrote:Ok. Pretty much like my Lophiosilurus alexandri then.

As long as tankmates are a good size and swift they should be safe.

Nearly right, but, as I say above, the full detail is in the T&Cs.
