Behaviour | First time it was a surprise I was told Corys don’t spawn here because of the temperature, but I think a cold front helped me a great deal. I didn’t see the mating ritual I was not home. I simply fund the eggs all over the tank walls. 2 days later I saw them swimming all along tank, up and down for a while. Then performed the T position and laid eggs on the glass walls. A 2 1/5 G. water change was done the night before the first spawning. Then they continue to spawn for 6 weeks even without water changes. One time was a massive spawning, I would say that in total over 800 eggs were laid over time. But this was my first time and lost the majority of the fry, only about 50 made it past the first month. |
Eggs | There were 800 white eggs laid which were 2.0mm in diameter. |
Time to hatch | 2 days Number: 500 Free swimming: 2 days |
Segregation | I removed the eggs from the tank, since it was not a breeder tank. The eggs were placed on a 1 gallon tank with water from the parents tank and air stone and methylene blue.
At the time I had both species together (C. Aeneus & B. Splendens) on the same tank, so some fry are pure and I don’t know if some are hybrids. |
