Down Basics
Overview The first spawn was on Sunday 23rd of December 2001. The breeding group consisted of 5 males and 1 female. Additionally, there were 7 unknown individuals present. The smallest male was at least 120mm SL and the smallest female was at least 70mm SL. The individuals were obtained from Jon.

Other Water Params Soft water bit tds and GH not measured. Pure RO (that isn't deionised) is used for all water changes.
Down Aquarium
Dimensions The aquarium dimensions were 1524mm x 813mm x 610mm (60" x 32" x 24") all Length x Width x Height.
Furniture Sand substrate with a number of caves, bogwood, redmoor wood and twisted hazel branches. Lots of the structure is covered in Anubias or Java fern plants. Tank is open topped with emersed plants grown around whose roots come down into the tank.
Filtration Sump filtration using foam and sintered glass (Pond Siporax)
Lighting Tanks has three lights. Two low wattage domestic LED spotlights and a Sol LED main light. The spotlights come on one at a time before the main light to provide a gentle dawn and dusk for the fish.
Heating Standard submersible heaters with a separate thermostatic control.
Down Breeding
Behaviour Spawned in long narrow tube cave covered in Java fern. Some babies were seen around the tank for a few days but none survived. The female died the next winter from bloat so no further spawnings.
