Down Breeding
Behaviour T-formation - male grabs females barbels and releases sperm, female releases egg(s) & cups them in her ventral fins. (look for the ventral fins stuck together). Males would harass the female as she would deposit eggs in order to be the be the next sperm donor. Don't know what triggered it, whether it was the water change the day before, the fluorescent light starter broke so they went a day without light(spawning occurred in the morning the day after I installed a new starter) or if my Apisto Macmasteri spawning could have triggered it. (I noticed one of them staying in the cave and not coming out for food, so i checked & saw eggs on the roof of the cave! First eggs for them too!) Temperature was above 80F when they spawned. Have had a few since, but since the summer I've only had one more spawn & that was again after a day or two (went away for the weekend) of the lights off, again temp was ~80F 2 have made it to juvenille. One of the two is an albino, second spawn I have noticed an albino in, first one didn't make it.
Eggs There were 10 cloudy white eggs laid which were 0.0mm in diameter.
Segregation Leaving parents in, it's a young group of sterbai, only 3 largest were involved in spawning. I think one of my Apisto Macmasteri was treating himself to a few eggs. As I type this only a few eggs remain on the glass (some appear unfertilized) and 3 in the pheonix moss.
