Basics |
Overview | The first spawn was on Thursday 16th of May 2013. The breeding group consisted of 2 males and 1 female. The smallest male was at least 80mm SL and the smallest female was at least 65mm SL. The youngest adult was approximately 2 months old. The individuals were obtained from Importer said they were wildcaught. |
Feeding | No foods recorded |
Water Parameters (at time of spawning) |
pH | 6.50 to 7.50 |
Conductivity | 100µs to 200µs |
Temperature | 25.0°C to 25.5°C |
Current | Gentle |
Other Water Params | Apparently not checking/controlling the water parameters worked best. |
Aquarium |
Furniture | Big fat chunks of bogwood with black sand and floating plants made a dark tank spawn worthy. |
Filtration | Eheim 2213.
80% bio substrate, consisting of 50% gravel and 50% tubes
remaining 20% is wadding material to catch particles |
Lighting | Standard Lido 120 lighting. Waters surface was thick with floating plants tough. This aquarium also partially catches direct sunlight for 2 hours a day, generating a large amount of thick algae. |
Heating | The standard heater which came with the Lido 120 |
Breeding |
Behaviour | Haven't looked for these guy's in a month, i knew they were up to something. I gave them 1 dark brown breeding-hole and put it in the darkest spot behind the bogwood. They're usually shy, and one of them was inhabiting the breeding-hole from day 1 when i've put it in the tank. |
Segregation | I've found 1 tiny L181 by accident, when it was 8mm already. The father left his cave this morning and apparently i've got about 40, which isn't bad for his first try, right? I think he's a very good dad, the amount of fry he raised is overwhelming for such young parents. I really don't know how old the fry is.. |

Juvenile sizes | 1 month: 0mm 3 months: 0mm 6 months: 0mm |

Fry and juvenile feeding | I guess they're fine with the amount of thick algae in this aquarium. I'll have to feed them a ground up pleco wafer extra each day i guess.
Note that i'm feeding the parents irregularly cooked macaroni, rice, carrots. They also love sour pickles, which i cut in half and they gratefully eat, this is by far their favourite food.
I'm doing my best to give my fishes a varied diet, giving them random food which is for human consumption. |
