|Etymology||Trachelyopterus: From the Greek, trachelos, meaning neck and pteron, meaning fin; in reference to the long cranial shield, which gives the appearance that the dorsal fin originates at the neck region.|
|Size||140mm or 5.5" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.|
|Identification||Can easily be distinguished from other species of Trachelyopterus because of the lack of an adipose fin.|
|Distribution||South America: coastal rivers of the Guianas and Brazil. Also known from the Amazon River basin.
