|Cat-eLog Data Sheet|
|Scientific Name||Pseudancistrus sp. (L056)|
|Common Names||L056, Black Gudgeon Pleco |
Sort Kutlingesugemalle (Denmark)
|Etymology||Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, agkistron = hook or barb. "False Ancistrus", meaning that it is like an Ancistrus, but yet not quite.|
|Size||130mm or 5.1" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.|
|Identification||Pseudancistrus is the only genus of the Ancistrini (former Ancistrinae) that lacks evertible cheek plates. Because of this characteristic, it has at times been placed in the Hypostominae. |
L056 is rarely exported, however, the L-number L056 is seen for sale and is incorrectly identified. In these cases, the fish being sold is Parancistrus aurantiacus. This stems from a misidentification in the Aqualog L-number book in the mid-1990s.
