Scientific Name Rhamdia guatemalensis  (Günther, 1864)

Type Locality Huamuchal, Guatemala.
Synonym(s) Pimelodus guatemalensis

Etymology The name Rhamdia is apparently a misspelling of 'nhamdiâ', an orthographic variant of the Tupi-Guarani name for the fish, 'jandiá'.
