Type Locality Stony brook near Santa Cruz, Laguna dos Patos basin, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Synonym(s) Loricaria strigilata
Pronunciation rhine lor ee kar ee ah.
Etymology Greek, rhinos = nose + Latin, lorica, loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather.
