|Identification||Smaller dorsal and adipose fins, two pairs of mandibular barbels, at least 50 branched anal-fin rays and 13-15 gill rakers on first gill arch.|
|Sexing||Females are larger and have a rounded, short genital papilla.|
|Distribution||Africa: eastward flowing rivers north of the Ruvuma, Lake Chiuta, Ruvuma system, Lake Chilwa.
