Size 49mm or 1.9" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Second largest catfish genus next to Synodontis in Africa. characterized by jaws and lips modified into a sucker or oral disc used for adhering to and feeding upon objects in fast flowing waters. Generally fairly small at 100 mm SL or less. Often caudal shape can show sexual dimorphism and is usually species specific.

Unique among congeners in lacking pale patches or bands on the trunk, instead having a distinct pale midlateral stripe with a series of small pale spots arranged in vertical rows sometimes visible and a series of two pale patches on the dorsal midline.
Sexing A sexually dimorphic species with enlarged anal and caudal fins, and with the central caudal-fin rays being notably produced in males (vs. diamond shaped, forked or trilobate in males of most congeners). In females, the caudal fin is shallowly notched.
General Remarks The type locality of C. productus is a clear, fast-flowing stream, with boulders, gravel and sand as substrate. The water was cool (22.8"C).
