|Etymology||The name Rhamdia is apparently a misspelling of 'nhamdiâ', an orthographic variant of the Tupi-Guarani name for the fish, 'jandiá'. Named in honor of James R. Reddell a pioneer in cave exploration in Latin america.|

|Identification||A subterranean species of Rhamdia with a broad, moderately depressed skull in adult, long head, almost no pigmentation, and lacking eyes. Also differs from its closest relatives (R.laticauda) in having a much longer head and adipose fin, with the dorsal fin overlapping the adipose fin as well as longer maxillary barbels.|
