Down arrow Species Information
Size 2000mm or 78.7" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification This is supposed to be a smaller species (up to 200mm SL) but this appears unlikely as Bagarius matching the description and range have been recorded up to 2m TL. Indeed, the relationship of this species with B. yarelli is unclear. One viewpoint is that the Himalayan cool-water species should be restricted to B. bagarius and the warmer water, lower ganges species be B. yarelli - both being giant species. Another viewpoint sees B. yarelli as a junior synonym of B. bagarius. Occurrences of B. bagarius outside of the Indian subcontinent may be an undescribed species. .
