|Etymology||Sorubi is the Brazilian local name for this fish (and several other pimelodids), latinised to become Sorubim. This specific epithet refers to its elongated (elongatus=prolonged, elongated) head and body shape.|
|Size||322mm or 12.7" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.|
|Identification||No other pimelodid genus possesses a dark horizontal stripe stretching entire length of head and body.
Very generally, Sorubim with spots are usually S. elongatus. They are more of a black water species and, as with most such species, tend towards more variable, spotted patterning.
|Distribution||South America: Amazon, Essequibo, and Orinoco River basins.
