Type Locality Marajo Island, about 1°27'S, 48°29'W, at the mouth of Amazon, Brazil (in a cistern).

Pronunciation fray toe bee uss - siss terr num
Etymology From the Greek phrear, phreat- meaning ''well'' or ''spring''. Cisternum in reference to the species being found in cisterns, another word for hand made wells.
