Scientific Name Rineloricaria caracasensis  Bleeker, 1862
Common Name Caracas Whiptail Catfish
Type Locality Caracas, Venezuela.
Synonym(s) Hemiloricaria caracasensis
Pronunciation rhine lor ee kar ee ah.
Etymology Greek, rhinos = nose + Latin, lorica, loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather. The specific epithet, caracasensis, is after the city of Caracas, Venezuela

Sexing Males grow short spines in the top of their heads and pectoral fins.
General Remarks Given this animal's restricted range, it is unlikely it has ever been imported by the aquarium trade.

Feeding Adaptable omnivores, these fish will eat most foods from cucumber or zucchini slices to frozen bloodworm or dry flake foods.
Furniture The fish should be provided with half-pipe type refuges which also often be used as spawning sites. Typically found in piedmont streams and rivers over a mixed substrate of stones, gravel, and sand.
Compatibility Peaceful and not territorial.
