Type Locality Oka, 18 miles north of Eovo, Congo system, French Equatorial Africa.

Etymology Chrysichthys: From the Greek chrysos, meaning golden and ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the golden-yellow color (of the type species, C. auratus).
