Luckily I haven't been stung by any madtoms yet, and hopefully it will stay that way!!

Well, I've moved them outdoors for a cool down, so I probably won't be able to get any pics, but I may be able to later tomorrow. I'll have to see if I can net 'em out and get them in a photo tank.

From what I've heard, they do have toxins of somesort in their dorsal and pectoral fin spines. I've even heard of people's fingers swelling from getting finned by them. I've had that happen with yellow bullheads before, and my thumb was throbbing for a day or two.

Yeah more people definitely should be keeping these fish. I'm going to get some tadpole, slender, speckled and margined madtoms from nearby river drainages and try to get each species to spawn. The margined madtom is not known from Arkansas. The slender madtom is. Besides, there is a yellow spot at the nape characteristic of the slender madtom but not found in the margined madtom. And just FYI, I got them fattened up so they aren't all skinny like they are in the pics.

These were sold to me as O. arnoldi. I got the last five and as soon as I introduced them to the aquarium they started schooling and eating algae. I got them from Petsmart, and I don't really trust their I.D.'s when it comes to fish that have several similar looking species within the genus.

Channels can easily get 4 feet in captivity. Albinos are actually pretty common and inexpensive and with lots of food can get to a foot in 8 months. I would only get 1, as they show more personality when kept individually.

Just FYI, your gunna need a separate 75g tank for each male in about 10 months. Your gunna need atleast a 30g for all six in 1 or 2 months.

Well, to prevent hybrids, why not cross a longfin normal "common" Ancistrus with a non-longfin albino "common" Ancistrus, and breed the offspring

Do you know some easy to get and breed species that don't get too big?

Look in the Cat-eLog under L-numbers and go from there. I looked at it, and it had some info on breeding L075 but not L128.

If you plan on breeding them: none, unless they are too small or week to eat the eggs and fry. Maybe something like... danios?

If not, I'm sure you could put some of the less aggressive ciclids in there.

Stocking limits depend on the max size of the fish,aggressiveness, footprint of tank,airation(sp?), and filteration.

What do ya'll suggest? I'm already planning to get some Ancistrus sp(3). Any others that are easy to breed and have larger fry?

Also, I was wondering if pl*cos would breed in a pl*co community, with two or three species spawning in the same tank.

There is info on sexing them on an article in Shane's World. I enjoy breeding fish, and I just wanted to have a more challenging fish. I'm also going to try to breed bullheads and white catfish, which, to my knowledge, have not been bred in an aquarium yet.

What size/age can the sexes of these fish be told apart?

Try bulldog/rubbernose pl*cos. They're fairly readily sold at petsmart. They aren't expensive either. I'm going to try to breed them.

I read the Shane's world article on them, and was wondering what size/age do the males develope the long pelvic fins?

Also, what size will they breed at?

I read the article/profile. I was told they have to have mud to breed, but that says they dig a nest. So if I give them a cave and about 4-5" of gravel/sand will they breed?

Also,how do you know how to tell if a female is ripe or just fat?

Anybody?

Are their any catfish besides plecos or cories out their that are about 5-6" and can be bred in a 55g for a beginner at catfish?
