Re: Strange, potentially dangerous problem with my tank
Well, I'm pretty upset right now. Something is really wrong with the tank and I don't know if it's just the fungus. The tank appears to be cycled, as ammonia and nitrites are 0. Haven't checked nitrates lately. It's a 15 gallon, sand substrate, with a ton of plants, most attached to wood. Don't have...

Re: Strange, potentially dangerous problem with my tank
Hey guys, Just wanted to say thanks for all your help. I removed the "offending" piece and will give it a good boil or bleach when I get the chance. Do you think soaking it with fish fungus treatment would do any good? I know this type of wood isn't really meant for tanks now, but it's bee...

Strange, potentially dangerous problem with my tank

Strange, potentially dangerous problem with my tank
Hey Guys, I set up a tank a couple of weeks ago, wanting to make it really nice for the cories that I've fallen in love with. It's a 15 gallon that I've set up with sand substrate, driftwood and live plants. I have two 6 gallon Eclipse tanks, one with eco complete substrate, the other with smooth gr...

Re: Snails or No Snails in the Breeding tank:
Well, if you ever want to get rid of snails and eggs, a good way to do it is use Jungle Clear Water. It's made of potassium permanganate. Put the plants (and decoration if they're snail infested) in a bucket and add enough to make the water a nice magenta color. I soaked some anacharis for a good ho...

OMG! a baby! lol! :-D
I had just fed everyone (3 tanks - my new set up and my two small, neglected ( :( ) tanks. I want to get the cories from those two tanks into my new set up, but I'm still getting a small amount of nitrites in it, so... as I sat in front of one of them, watching them eat, lo and behold I see this tin...

Oh, and most of the pandas I have are very small, they're babies that I just got the other day, so I can definitely see these guys having a midnight buffet with them - AAACCCKKK!!!

Re: Has anyone ever had any of these in with their cories?
Thanks guys!! I had a feeling... I'm pretty inexperienced with shrimp, although I'm fascinated by them. I see them in the aquarium shop all the time and would love to have them, but was always afraid they'd eat or be eaten by my fish. It's bad enough I had one of my bettas eat the oto I put in with ...

Has anyone ever had any of these in with their cories?
I was over on ebay poking around to see what they had, as I had just gotten some great little pandas from a guy on there the other day. I came across a listing for some freshwater shrimp. I've always liked the idea of having some shrimp in my tanks, but didn't know if my fish would be safe - or if T...

Re: Which One Is Better Between Sand & Small Gravel !!!
Thanks guys! I saw assassin snails SOMEWHERE... I live on Long Island and it might have been Aquarium Adventure in Carle Place. I can't imagine Petco or Petsmart having them (the only other places I was this weekend), but you never know! I actually got some Panda cories at Pet Supplies Plus - who ge...

Put a heater from my quarantine tank in there withOUT disinfecting it. I washed it off and I didn't SEE anything on it, but app...

Re: Which One Is Better Between Sand & Small Gravel !!!
Yes, thanks for that link. I got the Marine Sand - I hope that's ok. It's very fine and felt soft to the touch. I hope it's not TOO fine. :? I know that it's not good for planted tanks, but my plants won't really be planted anyway, so figured it would be fine in that regard. The anubias and java fer...

Re: Which One Is Better Between Sand & Small Gravel !!!
I can't really move the filter from one tank to the other, as my small tanks are Eclipse tanks that have the filter in the hood. My new tank has a HOB power filter. Also, I'm afraid of introducing these pesty pond snails into the new tank - some snails have actually gotten up into the filter and lai...

Re: Which One Is Better Between Sand & Small Gravel !!!
hi all, Hope it's ok I jump in on this thread. I currently have two smallish tanks set up - a 6 gallon eclipse and a 5 gallon walmart knock off of the eclipse. They were both set up as betta tanks about 3-4 years ago. I have a betta in each tank along with several cories in each. Well, I HAD a betta...

Re: Cory metae breathing heavy... :-(
Yeah, I know about the temp, but with summer heat, it's hard to keep it cooler than that, even with the air conditioner running. I've had him in the hospital tank for a few days now and he seems to be getting better - no thanks to you guys! LOL! j/k :D I've been using Maracyn 2 and ampicillin soaked...

Re: Cory metae breathing heavy... :-(
My poor little fishie! He is just not well and I feel so bad for him. He's swimming funny now and I just couldn't bear it. I put him in the quarrantine tank and added maracyn 2. I also put some sinking wafers that I soaked in the gel-tek ampicillin drops in there, but I don't know if he's eating and...

Re: Cory metae breathing heavy... :-(
Ok, guys, no replies yet, but now I'm looking at him and he's in the front of the tank, perpendicular to the gravel, up against the glass, on a piece of anacharis. I just looked at him through the magnifying glass again and it appears that the fin on his underside has some red (blood?) streaks in it...

Re: Properly Cooking the veggies/Other foods
I had read on other sites that you should blanch the veggies too, but all it did was make a big mess in my tank. I tried zucchini and broccoli. The otos wouldn't touch it, even though I'd leave it in there for quite some time. I think the reason they recommend blanching, is that otherwise it tends t...

Cory metae breathing heavy... :-(
Hey guys, I've had two corydoras metae for several months now and just last night I noticed one of them acting funny. Mostly, he (or she) seems to be breathing heavy. When I first got them, they were all over the tank, but now they mostly stay near the back of the tank, behind the plants, but will v...

Re: My new panda cories and my otos
I just took a look and I think you're right. The black on the C 121 doesn't extend down onto the caudal pendacle as it does on the metae. Also the body shape is more like the metae. Forgive this newbie's ignorance! :) There are soooo many varieties that I don't know how you guys remember them all! L...

Re: My new panda cories and my otos
No, they were just in the tanks as "assorted cories". I did a search online for photos and the one photo I found had it listed as C 121. Then I came here and looked at C 121 and thats what they looked like to me. I'll have to go take a peek at corydoras metae to see if that's more what the...

My new panda cories and my otos
I was out one day a couple of weeks ago and was "just looking" at the fish in a couple of aquarium shops. I kind of had in the back of my mind that I wanted to make one of my tanks a catfish tank. I have a betta in an Eclipse 6 that has been living happily alone for two years now. I had tr...

I recently got 3 otos and a week later discovered they had ich. I of course had them quarantined, so fortunately they didn't infect my planted betta tank. Things were not going well because the tank was small and I was having a hard time keeping it warm. I first tried salt, but couldn't raise the ta...

Well, impulse took over and I did it. I think I got the algae ...

Debating getting some otos
Hi, new here and I hope I'm asking this in the right forum. :) I've been debating getting a few otos for one of my tanks and here's my dilema: First I understand otos can be rather delicate and really need an established tank. That's not a problem, the tank I intend to put them in is fully cycled an...
