Re: Aluminum catfish help needed ASAP!!!
Very good shot! As we can see lower caudal fin lobe is longer than upper one, with nigrodigitatus and auratus it should be opposite. But in the other hand your specimen looks juvenile and it might be that the caudal looks like that with juveniles. It has black bordered fins like it should be with ni...

Re: Synodontis camelopardalis
Pic 5 looks caudalis to me, shape of head and caudal fin are correct and I don't know any other similar species that have head like that.
Pic 6 I still see schoutedeni there , of course it would be great to see how rounded caudal and dorsal fin are.

Re: The hybrid Syno thread
I've been talking with german breeder who have bred lots of synos(Seegers book says 8 species) and most of them with hormones. He said that female dies always after hormone treatment. I told him about breeding synos with natural ways and he said that he have never think about that option. Of cource ...

Re: Aluminum catfish help needed ASAP!!!
Sorry but I can't see the point why do you have to see that photo of C.polli. Of cource you want to compare it with your fish but if you are not an expert with these you can't find any differences between polli and auratus. If the scientist can't see the differences between many species how is it po...

Re: Ick with synos and inverts
I have found synos to be really quite tough however when they start to suffer it can be difficult to get them better. Mine have never reacted badly to meds. I agree. But with Microsynodontis batesii and polli I have opposite experience. I got white spot disease in one of my tank and I was using Pro...

Re: Synodontis camelopardalis
I was thinking the same. Even though the humeral process and long adipose fin looks correct. But shape of head looks a bit weird to me, same as patterning and color. Maybe some undescribed species?Richard B wrote:As an aside is the updated new pic definately this species?

Re: Aluminum catfish help needed ASAP!!!
Nice cat you have, these are one of my favorite cats. Identification of these is very problematic, there is no revision of these(at least I haven't found and I have been asking about it here) and there is lot of misidentification in this genus. It's not even clear in which genus some of the species ...

Thanks Richard for this thread.
Can you post some of these earlier hybrid ornatipinnis and decora photos here too. Those are quite common also at the moment.
I will check my hybrid photos when i got more time.

The small one is for sure robbiana.
The bigger brown one I think is nigrita not schall. I have got many nigrita that have the same whitish bone in pectoral and dorsal fin.

Re: Syno Angelica behaviour
They turn their color almost white but it's very humble acting from both angelica. Jippo...what size are these two? Birger Both are 25-27cm TL. If you had some breeding action in your mind it's then quite different than other synos have. There is not much information about breeding behaviour with a...

I haven't got any problems to combine other synos with angelica, it takes its place as a boss and thats it. I have got decora at the same tank with angelica without problem, no fighting when decora knew that angelica is number 1. Now i'm trying two angelica at the same tank, male and female. They ar...

Not a good news at all
I was a little bit shocked when I saw that hybrid decora on other thread, it had even branched barbels like decora should have. Doesn't sound good at all.

Re: Belonoglanis tenuis ?
I would say there is two option which genus it belongs, either it is Belonoglanis or Phractura. With Phractura dorsal fin is sited little bit more back than Belonoglanis. To find out the site of dorsal we have to see pelvic fin at same photo. From your photos I would say Belonoglanis. Also bony plat...

Re: Synodontis njassae?
Not njassae, it's hybrid decora. Looks very much genuine decora but caudal fin should have stripes not spots. This is the first hybrid that I see which have branched maxillary barbels.

Very nice synos Worton
Fast look and I would say they are all same species and macrostigma is very close to them even they are juveniles.

Maybe this one is same species? O...

Errr, in short, i'm stumped  Same for me, haven't found anything similar with these ones. Shape of head is qui...

I have 11 of these and next thing is to try breed them. I think I will follow Birger with my breeding project, he got some success with Microsynodontis earlier.

Re: What Syno am I?
Oh it's a big one  . Then it can't be robbiana. It really look smaller at photo and looks very much like robbiana. But as Sid said it is a mess with these brown synos. And there are quite many "failed" hybrid synos that are brown as well. First one is 5-7 year old wild catch male an...
