They are more delicate then all other Hypancistrus species, your aquarium is not so big just around 100 L so they can have problem with the more robust L20 to compete with food and hiding spots. You can try for a while to see how it works, I have very little experience of L20 but keep an extra eye ...

They are for sure L174 Hypancistrus sp and nothing else. If your goal is to breed them I would not recomend to keep them together with your other L20, L174 is not only one of the smallest species they are also much more "delicate" to breed.

L174 was also my initial guess, as, like some of you say, they have very small eyes (something which only a few Hypancistrus spp. have, if I'm not mistaken), and also, despite the fact that they're just 4-5cm. in size, some of them already have rather prominent odontodal growth, so are probably ...

Sounds good to me! In fact, I think you could even house 2 or 3 more L066's in there, to enhance the chances of them reproducing (not sure if that's your goal, though). I mean, proposed stock, tank size and filtration all leave room for a few more pleco's, or other fish, if that's what you'd rather ...

New Hypancistrus: anyone wants to hazard a guess?

Hey all,
yesterday I went to an LFS nearby and came home with four of these small Hypancistrus (1,5-2" in size at most) - for 18,75 euro's a piece.
I alreday have an idea what species they are, but would appreciate you peeps' opinion on the matter as well. So, please go ahead and fire at will.

Besides L239, I haven't seen Loricarids in aquarium stores being sold under the name Panaque.
Sometimes, Hypostomus species previous known as Cochliodon are also called Panaque: it's incorrect, but at least those fish are wood-eaters.
And some ichtyologists (whether rightfully or not I don't know ...

Nice! Have they started munching on wood yet?

It's unlikely that they will: despite their common name, these fish are no true Panaque's, and neither are they wood-eaters. Given the shape of their mouth, I think they're Aufwuchs-eaters (like ...

I'm aware that "L600" is not an officially recognized number, but (unfortunately) it has found its way to hobbyists and dealers alike: on the plus-side, it makes it easier to distinguish it from L114 without having to resort to throwing around scientific names (especially since with these two ...

I keep them together with some 7 Bronze Cories 'Orange Stripe', 6 Marbled Hatchet Fish, three Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids (1m/2f) and 3 L020 Polka Dot Pleco's (I think 1m/2f), so the potential for breeding is definitely there. So far nothing has happened in the tank ...

I don't think they are some sort of Parotocinclus sp., because they don't have an adipose fin.
After browsing the web a little, I'm leaning towards LG2 Otocinclus sp. "Paraguay" (or Otocinclus "negros"). I'm a real novice on Hypoptominae/Hypoptopomatinae, though...

Hey all,

I just wanted to confirm the ID of these two fish:

Hey all,
yesterday I stumbled upon one of the best deals I have found so far: I've always wanted more Cactus Pleco's, but they are very hard to come by in my area. So to my great astonishment my favorite LFS had a gorgeous 6,5" black and greyish white spotted Pseudacanthicus in one of their tanks ...

According to Ingo Seidel, P.leopardus is different from L114 on the following point
-More elongated head
-Smaller dorsal fin
-Brighter and more extended orange/red coloration
-smaller head spots that tends to vanish with age
-overall body colour: green grey vc brown grey

In my experience, plants that do very well even without fertilizer or lots of light, are various kinds of Anubias and Cryptocoryne. I'm very pleased with the Onion Plants (Crinum sp.) I have, but they may grow a bit too big for a 29g tank.
