epsom salts

Magnesium sulfate can be used so can calcium carbonate. I use a mix of the two to help ballance tanks in 1:4 ratio, as this is closer to natural conditions than using all magnesium.

In the uk most people dont ...

If it is a wild cory then give it a few months and the colour will probably start to fade, probably due to the lack of copious amounts of live food. then identification may become easier.

Interesting point silurus about the pond i am at the moment trying to find a design that i like. growth of channel cats

my channel now 17 years of age is still growing its now a little under 24" in length but the majority of growth was done in the first 5 or 6 years however i was feeding a lot more then and that probably had more to do with growth in my situation as the water quality has always been very good.

A possible way of stocking the pond is too ask your local fish shops to advertise that you want fish! there are always people in the uk looking to dump carp and goldfish some where plus if you dont ask then they will probably be dumped anyway. grass carp grow big big quick and you can forget all pla...

channels age.

How long do channel catfish live for? I have had mine for 17 years and he/she has had numerious amounts of tanks since then. I ask not because i want to get rid of it as i have been quite attached since day one but because this type of information is hard to come by. I estimate about 30- 40 years.

jumping plecs

I very nearly lost a as yet undiscribed species one summer when the covers were off the tank. The plec was not new to the tank and the other fish are not big enough to be a threat but a 8" plec managed at least a 6" leap. That was back when i didn't think plecs could jump.
