Little Cory species and hybridizing?

Has anyone kept more than one of the dwarf/pygmy corydoras together in a species only tank?

I want to keep all the little guys, but it would be nice to have one tank for them. BUT I'm worried about hybridization.

Or is that something that doesn't seem to happen?

Re: Spawning C. pygmaeous, Need help please

No good. I got nothing. :/ I think I'm going to get a few more and then try again in a few months. I need to transfer my worms anyways so they won't be feed-able for a while. I found out a new technique where you fast them for three (or two, I can't remember) days and some other peculiar things but ...

Re: Spawning C. pygmaeous, Need help please

Whoops! I meant 6.8 pH! I wrote it in reverse for some reason. The baby red wrigglers are the same size as grindal worms. They work very well. I read the spawning article hosted on this website and it didn't give any real breeding information. Just general care info... No breeding specifics. Thought...

Spawning C. pygmaeous, Need help please

So I've never really been good at getting any egg layers to spawn before. So I'm trying to do everything right in order to get my pygmy cordoras to spawn. My breeding set up: 75 degrees F. 8.6 pH 10 gallon, dim lighting, planted with driftwood, and sand substrate, DIY air driven box filter. Some sca...

Will the Four Lined Pimelodus eat the Banjos?

Is a Four Lined Pimelodus likely to eat full grown Banjo catfish? I'm thinking about adding them to the same tank if it's safe to do so.

Re: Cross breeding?

Maybe I'll give it a try. If it does happen, I'll just keep any that look like hybrids and not breed them. And then separate the different species to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks, I'm a member of PVAS and am considering joining the CCA. I was at CCA's meeting this last weekend, but only caught the end of it.

Cross breeding?

This is something that I want to avoid. I want to breed the three dwarf Corydoras species (pygmaeus, habrosus and hastatus). Since they all seem to require similar conditions, and since I have limited room, I was hoping I could set up one breeding tank and keep all three species all together. And ea...

Title says it all, anyone know of any catfish specific clubs? All I can find are general aquaria and cichlid specific.

I got this guy from a LFS. He's colored up after being in my main tank with plenty of algae and bogwood. It would be nice to know a species. I don't see any plates, just smooth skin and spotting. It's about 1 1/2" long right now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/captmicha/P1040008_zpsdae5...

Re: Substrate Q's

I've been putting oak leaves in my tank recently. Not enough to stain the water or anything but the fish like resting on them and picking at them. I know a layer of leaves would be most beneficial but I do want to have my tank planted because it improves the water quality and also because I like the...

Re: Substrate Q's

I think I'll use the orchid ferts I have since they're urea free and I read that ammonia leads to algae growth... And any excess urea is better avoided if ammonia is why I'm trying to filter out. If I followed the directions on that website, it would be crazy. I'd have to use several different ferts...

Re: Substrate Q's

That's awesome! You use it for the water column, right? It covers the macros, micros and traces? Are you using it in addition to root tabs? How about the urea? That doesn't cause a problem? I have orchid fertilizers that are urea free. I have it in the Grow More http://www.amazon.com/GROW-Orchid-Fer...

Re: Substrate Q's

I think I'll use pool filter sand since I've had luck with it in the past (been using it in fry grow outs and QT tanks) and it's nice and smooth and non-abrasive. And fish waste and algae stays on the top and doesn't get mixed in. Plants seem to do well in it too and I haven't even done any root tab...

I suppose pool filter sand will work just as well as any other media as long as I use root tabs. Do you guys agree? I was thinking about using Miracle Grow potting soil cappe...

At some point in the near future, I'd like to breed the dwarf cory species. I don't happen to have 3 extra tanks laying around for each different species. I'm going to try breeding the three pygmy cory species soon. Does anyone know if the pygmy species will eat their eggs? I'm going to try to get all three species and breed them all in the same tank instead of having to set up three more tanks than I already have. Also, can they hybridize? I'm not ai...

Pimelodus blochii needs a good home (MD/DC/NoVa)

He/she's about 5"ish. It's free but I want to see a picture of his future tank and know what his tank mates will be so I know he'll be going to a good home. He's NOT food! Right now, all he's getting is flakes so he'll be easy to feed and I'm sure he'd appreciate a more varied diet. I'm in Mont...

Pgymy Cory breeding

I have two species of pygmy cories that I'd like to breed. They're all in the same school but can interbreed, right?

I've looked up articles but haven't found much and already tried what they suggested.

I have around ten, a mix of males and females.

The Glass Shrimp sold in the USA are fish safe.
That's a relief because they all look the same to me! I'll only keep the cherry shrimp in my corys' tank and maybe I'll have some cherrys breeding too.
