Re: L-333 breeder set up and fry
More fry. I almost lost the breeding group due to a leak in their tank. Luckily, the tank only leaked down til there was about 6-7" of water left.

All pics of adult are of the same male who was brooding fry in the cave when I stole them. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd60/fanfins/plecofry8-30-08262316307318LDA-5038.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd60/fanfins/plecofry8-30-08262316307318LDA-5037.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/album...

Re: L-66 male on eggs in cave
They're back at it again. I got a batch of 30 out of the cave last night. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd60/fanfins/L-66fry8-29-08013.jpg These are some that were from a few weeks ago. They are starting to look more like their parents. I can see how juvenile L-66 could be mistaken for L-236 oc...

Re: Sturisoma aureum spawning video
They hatched yesterday and I collected them today with a large turkey baster and put them in a guppy box. I would guess this time I have around 80-85 fry (my largest batch yet). I may have a few loose in the tank I need to catch. If I catch them within 3 days of hatching, they seem to live and not s...

Re: Sturisoma aureum spawning video
My adults have eaten fry left in the tank. I left some in as an experiment and they were all gone in a few days. I know they were eaten, they just disappeared. I do know that some people have success leaving them in, but not I.

Re: Sturisoma aureum spawning video
Hey friend, any updates on your spawn? Mine spawned too. But guess they are inexperience and only 13 eggs are still sticking onto the glass. The rest of the eggs have fallen to the bottom of the tank. Needless to say, they have all turned bad. BTW, did you remove the female fish? The female is a li...

Re: Sturisoma aureum spawning video
I have been using better than brine and powdered spirulina to raise the fry. I raise the fry in tiny little guppy breeder boxes with very few openings and I keep an airstone in the box to assure oxygenation. This seems to keep the fry from having to forage for food and they have been doing very well...

Re: Sturisoma aureum spawning video
I had to sit in front of their tank for about 2 hours just to get that short video. It was 3 hours into the spawning and they were only about half done. I'm new to the video function on my camera, so I made a couple videos of the first couple batches of fry to practice. http://i222.photobucket.com/a...

Re: LDA-08 Adult and fry pics
These are the same fish I showed photos of when I started this thread. Now they've decided to show gold spotting. I would love to know what people think these really are. This color came after I stopped using softer water. I now have them in straight tap water(ph7.5 and moderately hard Gh and Kh). M...

A friend of mine in Brazil was fined 180,000.00 (Brazillian funds)(approximately 51,000.00 US) yesterday for exporting banned Hypancistrus. He had L-174, L-236, and L-66 packed to export when he was caught at the airport and fined. I think it's finally the end of exportation of my favorite fish as O...

Re: Megalancistrus parananus
I have a couple of Megas. They are about the toughest fish I've owned. They are both aggressive towards red/orange fish. The parananus seems to enjoy killing and eating large Amphilophus citrinellum. Last one he murdered was about 17". And yes, he ate almost the whole fish after killing it. Meg...

Re: L-333 breeder set up and fry
I breed most of my fish in 29 gallon tanks or 50 breeders. The L-333 are in a 29 gallon tank. There are 2 males and 3 females. I may have to graduate them to a larger tank because they are getting larger.

Male on a nice batch of eggs today. you can see they change to a spawning dress of yellowish tone, almost orange at times. Today, while laying eggs, they have great color.. When not spawning they are grey/black/white.

Do you by chance have a heater guard to protect your fish from getting burned? It sounds like symptoms of heater burns.

Re: L-66 male on eggs in cave
Here they are all huddled up in a breeder box after I removed them from the cave. I only have 2 boys, yet there are 5 girls. I took the fry because another female was trying to get into his cave. Hopefully, she will be there in the morning. There were 17 fry in this batch. http://i222.photobucket.co...

Re: L-333 breeder set up and fry
It is hard to tell from the pic, but are you using powerheads to create current? I always wondered how important they really are. Thanx I use sponge filter only. I change the amount of pressure on them regularly to create changes. I can get the water moving rather nicely with my air driven filters....

Re: L-333 breeder set up and fry
Couple of questions: How did you induce the L333's to spawn? What are you feeding the fry? I let the tank get dirty and then do a large water change to induce spawning. It takes between 6-9 weeks to feed heavily and get the tds up higher so when I do a water change, there is a drastic change in tds....

After almost 48 hours, the male has kicked a few out and they are hatching. There were many bad eggs attached to these, and there are still quite a few left in the cave. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd60/fanfins/L-168hatching006.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd60/fanfins/L-168hatching...

Re: L-307 fry pics
Nice pictures What was the problem before using the breeder box ? Don't get me wrong, i find i have more deaths if i don't move my fry into a breeder box a.s.a.p., after the male has hatched them out and the fry leave the cave. Not sure if the fry don't find the food easily in main tank, whereas th...

Re: LDA19 Mouth Spots Or Parasites ?
I had this look on a fish before. I think it's an injury caused by either wedging itself into an area with a rough surface or could be from another hypancistrus doing some pushing and shoving. I would pay attention to their resting/hiding places for a rough edge. I would also make sure that all of y...
