Yep, Department of Natural Resources. The name varies between USA States, but it is the gov. dept. that handles fish/game wildlife for each state.

Yea, it flicks it's body on the gravel on the bottom of the tank. But, he also flicks in mid water.

I've looked close at the fish and I can not see anything odd on his skin. How can I tell what is irritating his skin?

blue channel catfish

Just curious, why do people call a type of catfish a "Blue Channel"? Their is no such thing as a "Blue Channel Catfish". Their is a Blue Catfish and their is a Channel Catfish, but no Blue Channel Catfish.

We don't have Blues in my state (well, we do have some in one big river, but not that many ...

Ictalurus punctatus - Dancing in tank

What causes a fish to dance in a tank? My channel cat will twist quickly every once in a while. At first it looked like he was kicking food up off the bottom of the tank so he could catch it, but he does it when no food is present also.

Could something be wrong or is he just telling me he wants ...

It can't be registered as a record without killing it. They have to examine it and ID it to species (there is sometimes genetic testing), weigh it, and check the body cavity for added weights (lead sinkers, rocks, etc).

Sorry, that is not 100% true. There maybe a couple USA states ...
