Certainly Trilineatus are being commercially bred in Asia and are being widely circulated.

At present we ( as a retailer ) are obtaining small ones and medium sized fish but at the same time wild caught adults are still being imported .

We have been obtaining the farm bred fish for about 18 months.

As an owner of a retail shop I would agree completely that the situation with Czech syno hybrids is really worrying for all of us.

As a matter of interest, I was told many years ago that gammarus are extremely handy for hatching eggs !!

Basically they are reputed to consume fungus preventing eggs from being overwhelmed by it. At the same time they don't harm the eggs.

As a retailer I am as interested as anyone in the position with Zebra plecs but try as we might we have so far been unable to obtain any in 2004.

The fish are listed from Czech breeders as Aterrimus or ornatipinnis but look like this when they arrive or should I say when they are grown. Must be Hybrid

Lovely fish...As a matter of interest we had some of these arrive in the shop today from a wholesalerdescribed (and ordered) as Liosomadoras oncinus, with a price to match of course.

It seems likely that they originated from Peru as we have had them before listed on the exporters lists as Oncinus ...

No I was totally wrong mate, but I did post the correct conversion afterwards.

They are now being bred in Singapore and really should be as available as the "old standards".. Paleatus and aeneus.

Bythe way I seem to have made a basic mistake in my currency conversion yesterday, I stated that £10.00 = $US 5.70... that should have read $17.50.!!

Roughly £1 sterling is about 1.75 $ US and 1$ US is approx 0.57 GB£
whilst 1$ Aus is about 0.74 US $ and 1$ US is about 1.34 Aus $

i.e. £10.00 = $5.70 US

In the UK Sterbai as wild adults do command a premium price we ourselves sell them for £8.75 compared to many other less than £3.00.

Nowadays , tank breds are readily available and we sell young adults at 3 for£10.00.

Does Acanthomias not appear as a more slender species or is that courteti?

There are a lot of Rabauti about now as they are breeding them in quantity in Singapore.

I really dont know, I am trying to see the humeral process and it looks to me as if your fish has a longer "spike" on it than my specimen, or is this just down to age and size?

AS a retailer I have come across problems with (particularly) Sterbai packed too heavily in the past.

I believe that many whoesalers used to bag the sterbai for a while then re-bag in fresh water befiore shipping in an attempt to negate this problem

Now that Sterbai are being produced in quantity ...

The acanthomias that I believe are Acanthomias are very different to these fish and are they not longer and more, slender fish with spikes on the humeral process.? possibly a greyer fish a nd smaller spots ?

I must admit that I ruled out the Petricola aspect as there was absolutely no trace of a white spine at all on the dorsal .

Are there "races " of Petricola without this white spine as well ?

The ventral region being dark with darker spots also confused the issue for me and when I saw the Dhonti ...
