Re: I can't keep them alive...

I'm thinking pH shock. Have you tested their "home" water against your tank? Have any numbers for us?

Re: Fellow Keeper In Need Of A Little Help... The free kind

Something I find amusing. Someone posted two different pics of his clarkii clownfish. One got some major backing and came from down 2,000 to within 49 of winning the vote count in four days. But the other pic scored with the judges and took fourth in the money round. That guy made me work my fingers ...

The judges have finally spoken and the ABN did not place in the top four. But we tried. Thanks for the support.

Re: Don't Dump Your Old Water!

I usually only use tank water on it in the Summer when it is sitting outside on my front steps. This is the first time I continued into the Winter, it's blooming season. And I think it was a mistake to do so. It grew great leaves, so heavy they are now all flopped over. But only 2 spikes, 4 flowers ...

L 46 Spawn! Kind Of.

Doing my maintenance chores today and I found about 10 to 12 fuzzy eggs in my Zebra tank! Checked all the caves, nothing. So my two year wait for a spawn is over, kind of. The wait for fry continues.

Bought them as juvies, about 3/4 to and inch. At least I know they are now mature. Any advice on ...

Re: Fellow Keeper In Need Of A Little Help... The free kind

One day left and the ABN is still in first. By about a grand right now. But a pic is making an astonishing run. The Clarkii & Anemone pic is now in second and gaining. It seems to be getting three votes every couple of minutes. I smell a rat and this time it's not me!

Can I ask one more time for ...

To the mod who moved this thread, thank you.

I debated where would be best. Tank Talk because it was about tank pics, or the Speak Easy because it was asking for some off beat type of help. I decided on the Speak Easy then posted in the wrong forum anyway. I figured it would be (re)moved.

Live critters, food or bait, in the refrigerator.

Dead stuff in the freezer, again food or bait, is tolerated. Barely.

So when this started it was for the purpose of helping our friend and displacing the two in front of her. A 'win win'. Now, I admit, it has become a quest to overtake that horrible damsel pic. Her ABN is the only good pic with a chance to do so. Personally, I think the judges will pick the ...

You're right. When she asked for help she was in third place behind the damsel and the bi color betta. At that time the rules were the pic with the most votes wins a $250 gift certificate to their favorite LFS and gets published in TFH. Simple enough. Except the two leaders were obviously being ...

A friend on another forum just went through the breakup of a LTR. She had to sell most of her fish as a result. She's trying to get back into the hobby, but her money is tight. The help she needs is easy and free.

She entered a picture of her ABN in an online photo contest. Top prize is a $250 ...

I agree that more and better pictures are needed. But I think that's a male. Better overhead head shots will tell the tail.

Hypancistrus Growth Rate

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the growth rate from my first Hypancistrus (L333) spawn. Not trying to crow about it, just want to know if this normal. I really thought these grew much slower.

Here's a short video showing a juvie from the first spawn with two fry from a second. About 6 ...

My L333 Tank. Live and in Person

I set up a cam on my L333 tank when I noticed a gravid female hanging in front of my bull male's cave. Had to turn on the lights for the cam so I'm not sure we'll see a spawn.

Current residents are three adult L333s and about 20 juvies. There is a new spawn in the square cave.

Only going to have ...

You are correct, they are thin. They were probably out of the cave for a few days before I saw them. But they're starting to fatten up nicely on Sonic's Pleco Power Pellets (fine) and BBS.

The cat-elog shows several black and white L333s. I thought they were color varients of the same species. I also thought his size confirmed the ID. Are there other Hypancistrus that get as large?

Do you know the pH of the water where you bought the fish? I sharp swing may have distressed it. Especially a sudden drop. Hopefully it will adapt, but pH shock can kill several days later.

Only small odontoads on the gills. You can just make them out on the fish's right side.

I'm not sure how important body shape is in this case. I've been overfeeding this tank for a few weeks to condition the female(s).

By head shape alone, does anyone think this may be a maturing male? Sure acts ...

Always thought this was a female. Part of a trio until the male died. It never took a cave and always had a blotchy stress pattern. I replaced the old male with a very large "bull" that I pictured here a couple of months ago. But ever since the first male died this fish has started hanging out in a ...
