Am I messing up? I have two groups of Cories. 6 San Juan Cories (bilineatus) in a 15-gallon tank. These guys seem happy but I have yet to own them for 24-hours. We couldn't leave 2 of them by themselves. 5 mixed cories - paleateus, panda, juli, melini, metae. These guys are also happy and se...

Corydoras Bilineatus - San Juan Cory
I just purchased a group of 6 Corydoras Bilineatus. The LFS atated taht they were last seen about 3 years ago. The data on this site did not have much other than the scientific name. I'd like to know more about: Size, Water Quality requirements (some cories like more alkaline water than others), Nat...

I really don't think it's my water quality because I test it weekly and ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites are always zero. My pH is at 7.4 and this is straight from the tap. I add no other chemicals into the water. Michelle, I wonder if the hardness, phosphate levels, or perhaps temperature could be ...

Paul, I've noted that happen once or twice here too. It sometimes is due to the ISP and the interactions with a forum. Sometimes it cannot be helped. If we all had DSL (I wish I had one but that would interfere with my disposable homebrewing and Aquaria income) this may be prevented. But we all have...

Beersnob, you are not alone! You should visit the shop bierkonink in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; last time I visited (1997), they had 1400 sorts of beer, included banana beer from the pacific! I firstly read about it in Time Out Amsterdam, and maybe they have a website? If you want to brew somethin...

oops, nitrate is <20 ppm.nitrite is 0. the reason i don't change the water weekly is because all that's in there is a betta, the little filter that's on it is on the overkill side and there are plenty of plants for the size of the tank.i test the water at least once a week and leave it until the ni...

Don't take me wrong ,I am not trying to go aginst any one here, or thier tank size suggestions . I don't go to the extreams on sizes ,not all fish grow to world record size or there would be no world records. All I am asking is why give the size of a fish that is possibly the largest ever caught an...

You could possibly keep a pair of Sorubim lima shovelnose cats in a 55 provided there was a large area at the front of the tank for free open swimming and no other bottom dwelling fish to compete for space with. Tankmates for large pradatory catfish must be tall bodied ( silver dollar and c*****d s...

Since we are talking about TigerShovelNose Cat. It is really required to have good water current in the pond let say 8x4x3 and what kind of filteration would be good, Im thinking of a DIY drum filter that would sit above the pond and submersible pump would pump water into the drum and in the drum w...

Tiger Shovelnose or Common Shovelnose or Other?
I recently obtained a 55-gallon long Aquarium tank. After I clean it (tons of dried algae :( ) I am planning on getting some larger Cats. I'd like to get some of the larger cats, but I need to understand what the limitations are of the following species with both my tank (4' x 15"x15"?) an...

I have a large problem....WAY TOOO MANY HOBBIES! First, I'm a Football (American) and Baseball nut! Thanks for your input. I have another issue that you might be able to assist me with. Will the pH in my tank drop (become more acidic) when the Botia eat the snails? I need to ask this question because the acid levels have increased in my tank and I have not changed anything other than the power fil...

I don't think that there are any catfish suitable for a tank your size. Smaller doradids might do it, but there is no guarantee that they will eat the snails. See this post . Can you be more specific about the doradids species? I'll check the list here. If there are other sources that may assist me...

Snail-eating Catfish (small)
All, I have started up a 20-gallon tank :D and will need to start paring the snail population down soon :P . I was leaning towards loches (Botia) that were 3-4 inches in total length. But I am hopeful that there is a similar type of species of catfish that would remove the vermin as well as the Boti...

michelle56, Cory's are almost always kept in good sized groups. Ian Ian, There is an article about the number of Cories to keep together in the Tropical Fish Magazine. I believe the intent is to keep a large number so that the Cories are happy, but within reason of your tank confines. The three in ...

Luckily I did not loose anything. I spent the whole night, the power went out again and I could not leave them, coving them with tons of blankets and with an airtube attached to my bubble Screen) hanging out that we hooked up to a little basket ball pump that we pumped every ten to twenty minutes. ...

Hi! The main characters are all catfish, but the fish that got fishnapped are just a whole bunch of different kinds, but they are all kinda small. Like, none over 4 inches long. I know it's kinda cheesy, but it's supposed to be for little kids. Kind of. Older people can play it, too! Like me! ...
