Looks like a Peckoltia, my initial first thought was , but it really doesn't match that species well.

I've never heard of it, and must have missed it in the reading. Which article was it in? I'd like to look into it myself.

Re: L46 Male or Female?????
The pic doesn't help much, but I have to disagree based on the head shape in the first pic. To me it looks female. Regardless, it's not getting enough to eat. I would likely blame the tankmates in the background. For the sake of the fish, it should probably be moved to another tank. However, if that...

Re: Rinelirocaria Parva wild breed
They're fairly easy once you figure them out, but are rather labor intensive. Small container and wiping down the sides and bottom as well as siphoning twice a day. They're not really as picky about food as it seems, but refuse to eat if there is any kind of biofilm. I've tried all the tricks with s...

What's the length? That would be approximately 57 gallons on a 48 inch tank, although unusual dimensions. If 36 inches, it's approximately 43 gallons. If 30 inches, it's a 35. I ask because this just seems like odd dimensions for a tank, almost a square and very narrow footprint.

Re: A bad night for females :(
It's a bad pic, just took it for this post, but this is what I've resorted to for most of my non-Ancistrus breeders. The back section of pipe is two inch and the front is sized for the breeders by the traditional formula. In order for the male to "trap" the female, because of the wider dia...

Re: Adding R/O Water??????
I originally was feeding kensfish veggie sticks twice a day. They did fairly good on that, and spawned several times, but was having to do a lot of cleaning to keep the water good. I switched to repashy soilent green once a day in April, and it took a lot longer to condition them. However, the number...

If they're actually L100, you shouldn't need any RO. Heavy feeding and clean water has been the only requirement with mine.

I don't keep leaves in my tanks, aside from a couple shrimp, cory, and tetra tanks, but have wondered a couple times whether something about the tannins may be helpful to digestion. I've seen it mentioned in the past, but have never found any research with a tangible conclusion. It could also be as ...

Haven't done any Baryancistrus for years in my personal collection, but based on L18/81/177 they should be very near spawning at that age.

One and four appear female. Fish two is male. Fish three is unusual as the vent appears female, but the odontodes and head shape look male. Not sure what to say about that one. Regardless, at the sizes listed they should be nearing maturity. I say nearing because I used to sell to an angelfish breed...

It may be a species thing, but I've had the common type spawn on the underside of a piece of driftwood very close to the tank bottom. Other species may be more demanding.

I'm trying to follow along for the point of this, but the only difference I'm seeing is the substitution of eggs for which ever binding agent in the mixtures causing the change in waste. I've had a couple drinks tonight, so probably not the most observant at the moment. However, I'm curious how this...

This is only slightly off topic. Does anyone have the etymology for the species name of this fish? I hadn't came across this one, and honestly thought it to be a crudely humorous typo before clicking the link. I have to know why they named this fish that!!! I'm trying to steer clear of the one-liner...

You'll have to explain what you mean by spotted. It's just too vague to be able to say whether they're the common form or something a bit more exotic.

Re: top 10 breedable plecos
I've raised hundreds of these, so can say they are definitely viable. Most instances I hear of any pleco not surviving past a young age can be traced to either poor water quality, bacterial infection, or parasites. The parents are not as fragile as the young fry, so generally don't show symptoms. La...

Re: Pleco spawned with hungry tankmates
Just pull the cave now (fry, male, and all) to the grow-out tank. I would probably move the white clouds first, but they'll likely only take a few of them if you want to leave them in.

I know this has been said before, but tetras are definitive predators. Someone posted some time back that neons have even more impressive dentition than piranha. I didn't believe it so I looked under a microscope. I still wouldn't say more impressive, but their teeth are definitely evolved for teari...

Re: New tank setup with trickle filter and biological filter
That does give the best of both worlds. Just in case, remember to allow yourself plenty of room above the tanks to comfortably siphon, net fish, or other general work. Nothing worse than having a great system become an annoyance to work on due to lack of space. I'm only adding this because the schem...

Even among matched pairs, you're going to get fighting. You may be able to get by with fish no larger than L134. I think L200 will end up being a death sentence for the female.

Re: New tank setup with trickle filter and biological filter
The biggest problem will be a limit on size of fish in the tank. For a tank only 6 inches deep, I wouldn't go with anything longer than 3-4 inches. The reason for this is any territorial displaying that may take place along the wall. Granted, this is rather unlikely, but would be something to watch ...

I'm not convinced regarding the L129 vs. L340 pic. I've raised quite a few of both over the years and have noticed there is a lot of variation regarding both the pattern and stripe width in both species. L129 does tend to produce more narrow stripes, but L340 also regularly ranges from very narrow t...

I'm not very experienced with Leporacanthicus, have only ever spawned L264, but am going to agree a pair for a completely different reason than already posted. It's not commonly mentioned, and I don't know why, but ventral fin shape is a relatively good indicator of sex across several genera. The up...

L100 definitely matches both the adult and fry pattern. I'm just now getting my F-1 juvies, spawned here, up to around three inches SL and noticed the white is substantially less than only a couple weeks ago. They're also starting to develop the bristles on top of the head and branching a bit. I can...

Re: Checking egg clutches
It's better to set the cave so you can see inside before the spawn happens. However, it's not always possible outside breeding tanks to figure where the eggs are going to be laid. It is possible, and I've done it myself. With that being said, it shouldn't surprise you if the male kicks the eggs out ...

I've never seen my sterbai develop any color other than the standard, white belly and striated spots. They spawn constantly, and I stopped pulling eggs several months ago. I just get by on what few manage to survive in the tank with the adults. Likewise, I've never seen them look "fat". Gr...

Re: Help Breeding my L100 PLECOS
One point that may be important, the temp was a rather consistent 83 degrees during the spawns. Water changes dropped that a bit for a short time. Xingu plecos don't tend to spawn well at lower temperatures.
