Your 6" Galaxia may most certainly be mature. At a local fish shop there is a pair frequently breeding in a 25 gallon tank. The male is about 5-6" and the female about 4-5". But of course, the size when they mature, depends on their natural full grown size, but also on their living co...

Poor growth on L200

Hello, I wonder if someone knows how to improve growth of the L200 Green Phantom. I have had 3 of them for about 1.5 years now and they haven't even grown 0.5 inch during this time. They where about 4 inches when I got them. I feed them with shrimp mix (shrimp and pees 50% each), algae discs and shr...

Bred L142/LDA33

Yes it has been bred,

at least according to an article published on a
Swedish website which describes how to simulate
the rain season.

http://hem.spray.se/peter.lonnstrom/

under Malodling

In that article it is mentioned that the author
successfully bred the L142/LDA33 in about 1999.

Price for L204

Price for the L204 is: 30 euros for 4cm and 40 euros
for 12 cm.
I don't know if the small ones are the captivity bred
L204's I mentioned above.

L204 may already been bred

Hi,
I heard from the guy at the LFS, which import directly
from South America, that he has been offered pond bred
L204. If that is true, it has been bred in captivity at
least. He had about 50 of these guys in the shop and
they were about 1" long.

Hello NotNoisy, I just learned a very good way of sexiing plecos. I think but I´m not sure that it counts for most of them. According to this way numbers 3,4,6 are females and maybe also 8. When you look at the plecos from above the second pair of belly fins (I don´t know the correct word for thes...

Hi there, the pleco on the picture you show looks exactly like my L142´s. I bought these 2 years ago (I have 5) and they are about 6-7" now. Since they heaven´t yet shows any signs of maturity (longer spines or fins etc.) I believe they aren´t fully grown. I´ve heard that when they are abou...

The spots I found on one of the zebras are now gone without any medication at all  . I got the advise from a guy very interested in plecos and sometimes works in the LFS that the conservation substances which are present in most normal fish medication should/must be avoided when treating pleco...

I lost 3 out of 5 Gold Nuggets. They jumped out of the aquarium through the feeding hole :( . Otherwise, I have kept at least 4 of them for about 1.5 years and haven´t had any problems (yet). They are about 4-5 inches and seems to be fine. I have heard that one thing that can cause problems is over...

Thank you everyone, Im very grateful for your answers.

As I mentioned, I´m just in the observation stage so far. I hope that I don´t have to treat them with medication, but I´ll get some, just to be prepared if the spots get any worse. I was thinking of Malachite green, Methylene blue or Esha Exit. Here in Sweden we have something called Protozin whi...

White spot desease on Zebra pleco?

Hello, I finally bought a few Hypancistrus Zebras and I must say, they must be one of the, or the most beautiful plecos around. I´m not at all sure, but I think I can see one or two small white spots on one of zebras dorsal fin :( . Could this be the White Spot Desease or am I just too worried. I h...

Why is tank bred Hyp. Zebras so rare in the LFS´s

I wonder why tank bred Hypancistrus Zebra is so rare or even impossible to find in the LFS´s. I have never heard about any shop selling tank bred Zebra´s. I don´t have any experience of the Zebra myself, but I have read quite a lot about the Zebra and as far as I can find out, it seems to be rela...

Please comment this info about the L200 Hi-fin

Hello everyone, I've been thinking for some while now of getting this very beautiful and unusual coloured pleco and last Sunday I bought three L200 Hi-fin plecos. The dealer then told me some interesting things about them. I would appreciate comments about the information he gave me, if it is right ...

Oops I forgot

I forgot the most important thing. The Nuggets must be in a good shape when you purchase them. A recomendation is to buy them a few weeks after they have been shipped to your dealer from the Brazilian supplier. If the local fish store has kept them for a long time I would be surprised if they still ...

Keeping the Gold Nuggets Alive

Hello, I thought the Gold Nuggets where quite easy to satisfy in an aquarium. I have had my group of 5 Nuggets now for about a year and haven´t had any problems at all. I had some more practical problems in the beginning with Nuggets jumping out from the tank. I lost 3 Nuggets this way. They jumped...

Sexing and breeding L134

Hi, sexing the L134 is quite easy even prior to the development of the fine hair on the rear part of the body and odontodal growth on the forward fin rays of the males. If you look at the fish from above the widest part of the females are just behind the head and they have a smaller head than the ma...

Peckoltia?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question about water tolerance of the L081 and L085, but as I understand, the Gold Nugget plecos belong to Baryancistrus, not Peckoltia. Maybe Peckoltia is used in a broader perpective, I've seen that Peckoltia has been used for a lot of different groups such as ...

Will the Gold Nugget Plecos loose their spots?

Hello, this is my first activity on this forum. I hope someone out there can help me. The local fish shop owner claims that the Gold Nugget plecos loose their spots when they are adult. This counts for the small and medium spot Nuggets (L081 and L085). The only one keeping it´s spots even when adult...
