Ashamed to post such happy crap on this sacred website...
I had this 1975 Chevy NOViA that developed this huge OIL leak.Clearly word of this high perfomance road machine's demise has recently spread to the Amazon rainforest where this amazing vehicle was commemorated with the naming of a local fish.Curiously, the Centromochlus catfish moves considerably fas...

Tatia Neviae
I have 2 Tatia Neviae(nice to see in the cat-e-log) and I noticed that lately the skinnier, longer of the two has fins that are looking like they are missing. In particular the anal fin is completely missing. I thought that I might try to determine if this was a result of agressive interacton, perhaps ...

I don't think my S.Acanthomias is going to stay small!
Wow! My S.Acanthomias is growing very fast.I have it in a 55 with 9 S.Nigriventis,7 Eutropiellus Buffei,Anomalochromis Thomasi, and Pantodon. It doesn't cause any injuries, but will chase the Nigriventis off of the bottom of the tank into the Anubias covered branches at the top.Taking a look at it's te...

Thanks guys,I am not looking to buy the fish.I was just curious about the availability of them.I wondered if perhaps they were being confused with walking catfish and being held back.I was also reading an old Ginny Eckstein Q and A that mentioned the stinging ability of these fish and thought perhap...

Heteropneustes Fossilis-Why have I never seen these fish?
Are fossil cats just not popular(now?) or is the importation of these fish restricted?I live in New Jersey and have seen all sorts of uncommon fish available in the better retail stores around here, but I have never seen these fish. They appear in magazines and books, just never in stores.Hmmm.....

Id'ing small loricariid
I have a small lor. cat that I am having trouble identifying. Are there any general rules of thumb that might help me at least get the genus correct?I am thinking it's a Parotocinclus or Otocinclus.Any help is appreciated.Thanks.

I like the idea of going for a true biotope, but it can be difficult. Not only is finding info and correct species tough, but the hardest part might be resisting the urge to add those great rare Whatthehellsthis Whatcamacallitichthys that you've never seen before.I wanted to experience keeping as many ...

My bristlenose (Ancistrus ?) does go after my swordplants. He must rasp away at the large broad leaves, because I notice scrape marks on them.I have 3 different types of swordplants in that tank. The Echinodorus Parviflorus (a small attractive plant)is tough leaved and the Ancistus leaves it alone.I cu...

Those blue dyed catfishes
Okay, what are those catfish that are available now that are dyed blue? They look like pelagic Asian cats(Ompok,Kryptopterus). How large do they grow?Does the dye eventually fade out?I don't like to encourage the practice of dying fish, but if these fish might otherwise work out....

I have a Synodontis that was sold to me as S.Acanthomias.I don't know what species I have exactly.I do know however that this is among my favorite fish.Recently,I noticed that the fish is looking different now.The front edges of the pectoral fins have become very dark. The edges look almost black now...

I have a single adult Amblydoras Hancocki that didn't make a dent in a population of small pond snails.Of course,I also introduced alot of food into the tank, which may have been tastier.I wanted to eliminate the snails so I broke the tank down and did successive dilute bleach and Lime-It dips. The sn...

Synodontis Nigriventis
My Nigriventis will dart around the tank right side up and upside down when I remove all the rocks during water changes.I notice if they are feeling secure(lights out)they'll swim right side up to eat food that sits on the bottom.Otherwise, they swim upside down under rocks all the time.

Amazon catfish shopping
I tore down my 29 gallon planted Amazon catfish tank last week.I wanted to replace the substrate.I had some awful looking epoxy coated pebbles in there. They were too large in size and causing detritus to build up in the substrate.I replaced this with 30 lb.s of Volcanit which is a nice dark brown co...

I figured I would post again and let you guys know that I decided to just add just 3 more Synodontis Nigriventis for now. That brings my group up to nine individuals.I really like the Acanthomias. It's getting big(shrimp pellets)and I just don't wanna increase the risk of mayhem in this tank.I came cl...

I have a 55 w/ 6 (soon to be 8) Synodontis Nigriventis,7 Eutropiellus Buffei,a single 4" Synodontis Acanthomias, and a few dwarf jewelfish. The tank is furnished with two piles of lava rock that reach the surface at each end and is planted with various Anubias species.I realize that S. Acanthomia...
