Re: Can't get plecos to eat

Put zuchinni in a cave (half coconut shell) that only the pleco can get in to and the hole is too small for the cichlids.

Re: Can Hypancistrus over-eat meat and get bloat?

In a post from 2011, Apistomaster advised against beef heart for bloat (see below). Some hyphans are great tanks for discus since they will do well in warm water, but will succumb to bloat if they eat too much beef heart which is fed for the discus. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: Looking for very specific Pleco

Leporacanthicus can be pretty destructive. They are known for eating silicone out of aquariums and tearing apart driftwood. Their fang like teeth are adapted for digging into wood to pull out insects which they eat. They will prey on shrimp and small fish that they can catch. They also aren't white...

Re: Surprised with a L411!

My understanding is to raise it like a L260, Queen Arabesque Pleco; the advantage is L411 supposedly easier to breed than a Queen.

Re: L014 Pleco with Cichlids

Is there some "cave" for the L14? Once it takes up residence there, you can "hand feed" it wafers/pellets, and hopefully the convicts can't get in to the cave to steal food.

Re: Is behavior a reliable indicator to determine if a fish is male or female?

I The key, as mentioned is they need to be close to being ready to spawn. One thing many folks may not account for is the fact that in a spawning group both the males and the females have a pecking order. Only the top females get to spawn, not the subbordinent ones. By this stage it becomes clear t...

Ooops. My mistake (I thought L273 were also Typhoons). Don't see one on Aquabid. Wetspot nor Batfish Aquatics doesn't seem to have some (though maybe if you contact them, they can try to find one for you). Maybe one of the vendors or participants of the October catfish convention may have a lead? ht...

Re: Pseudacanthic Sp. Typhoon....

Yes these are nice when they are young, but I think the coloration gets more muddy as adults. L114/600 are similar, and the coloration stays when they become adults (and are cheaper). Otherwise, aquabid: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwcatfishp&1456707915 http://www.aquabid....

Re: Help with ill Golden Nugget (L085?)

There are a lot of causes of this wasting. The biggest one is that all gold nuggets are wild caught. They are often treated with antibiotics in the shipping and transferring process. This can wipe out their beneficial gut flora of bacteria that they need to digest food. The result is that they eat,...

Re: Questions about feeding mussels to L264

My recollection from other posts (do a search) is that mussels are ok occasionally. It seems that these can succumb to bloat from eating too much meaty foods (or at least market shrimp, which I think the posts mention). So as long as these are getting lots of veggies and variety in their diet, these...

None? What about a heater controller: Neo-Stat Heater Controler -- $115.95 This is the controller for a Neo-Therm heater. It has a place to plug in a normal heater, and a probe that goes into the water. Set the heater at maximum, and let this control the temperature. Alternatively, set your heater n...

Re: L204 Sexing

These are supposedly tricky to breed, so I think most are wild collected. The males seem to be much easier to catch (as they roam and patrol their territory), so I'm not surprised folks are ID'ing these as males. I got 4 from someone who personally collected them in Peru; not surprisingly all males ...
