Re: Upgrading to a 75 US gallon tank

I'm currently running a 75 gallon tank, and I had to start completely fresh. I can tell you it will take a good while to fully cycle it that way. I started with a small group of tetras/snails, some anubias plants and allowed a good few months to pass before I added anymore fish. I suggest two Eheim ...

New to Corys....suggestions?

I've got a 75 gal tank and I'm looking to add 6-8 corys to it. Currently I have 3 L128, L190 and a king tiger pleco. I know very little about corys, other then they've got personality and can make a great dither for plecos to come out of hiding. The tank has a bunch of wood, flat slate and live plan...

Re: PLanted Aquarium for Catfishes - Oct.2010

Great info! I found this DIY link for cave terraces. Would the sharp edges possibly hurt a pleco?

Re: Brown Algae?

You might consider adding a few Farlowella. They are excellent algae eaters except for filamentous types. I like them because they are different from common Bushy Noses and their habits do not interfere with breeding cave spawning fishes like Apistogramma and Plecos. They are far more effective tha...

Re: PLanted Aquarium for Catfishes - Oct.2010

So where do you buy some good terraces? Also do generally use different substrate for the terraced portions? Or do you just section it off? I'm tempted to post photos of my tank, but I'm embarrassed haha. I wanted to get some opinions on how to make it more visually appealing. I'm new to learning ab...

How did you get the plants to sit that high in your tank? Also with that much wood do you not get a whole bunch of wood tannins?

Re: Brown Algae?

Well I wasn't using much light prior to the problem. I ononly have a few anubias plants. Since the problem, i bought two new t5 bulbs and have ran them during the day for roughly 8-10 hours. I'm also doing weekly water changes at 30%now. The tank is under stocked for its size@75 gal.

Brown Algae?

Hi guys, what's the best solution to a brown algae outbreak in an already established tank? I've installed new t5 bulbs and have had them run for 8 hours a day the past 2 days, seeing slight improvement, but not 100% improvement yet. All I've read is new lights, or doing a 3 day blackout with a blan...

Re: Eheim 2217 filter questions

Thank you for the info!

Ok, so not a huge concern if there's a slight mix....i'll have the separate it by hand the next time i clean.

I've seen some of the outlet nozzles certain folks here use for their eheim, what is a good site for attachments?

Re: Eheim 2217 filter questions

So I've done this a few times since owning the filters, and I wanna make sure I'm doing this efficiently and correctly. I'm disconnecting the filter, and I'm rinsing off the blue filter pad and the white filter pad in water, getting the thick sludge off of the pads. Using tank water I'm pouring the ...

Re: Grouping L128

Although I do keep "pleco caves" and various hiding spots, the liklihood of both types of Pleco breeding successfully is quite low right? I'm just looking to get a variety of fish together in a peaceful community. The Macaw likes to hide with the L190 and L128 in the same large spot, so I ...

Grouping L128

Currently I'm running a 75 gall, looking to go to a 125 gal. I've got 1 L128 and 1 L190 at the moment with a few tetras. I'm looking to keep 1 macaw cichlid, with a few silver dollars and larger tetras. Is it safe to keep a small group of L128 together, perhaps 3-4? Also if I wanted to mix them with...

I've never cleaned my two filters yet, and I was wondering if thats something I have to do, and how often? Also how long do I go until I change the filter pads? Your help is appreciated, thank you! :)

Re: Need circulation advice!!

Well I would be putting the unit near the gravel and having it create a current deep in the tank. I dont mind a few "dead" spots in the tank where the fish can rest without a current.

What size should I get for a 75 gal aquarium and do you recommend these for added circulation for a tank. All I have is my two 2217 eheim spray bars and I would like more circulation. Thanks!!

Well I'm going to have an empty 75 gal soon, and I'd like to start breeding. I have a friend who breeds zebras very easily so I have direction and help too. I don't understand how a L190 could be so much tougher then any other plecos.

Anyone have success in breeding L128/L190?

I'm really curious about this. I've run across some funds and would love to try it someday once I do a heavy amount of research, but the more I read up about it, I'm finding both specimen's are incredibly hard to spawn.

L128 aggression?

I just put a L190 in the community tank with my Blue Phantom, and the blue phantom won't let the little royal get near him. Should I be concerned about the royal getting picked on, or will he find another hiding place? I've got various caves and areas for him to hide in. I was considering getting a ...

Garlic Extract.....

So I'm trying to fatten up my newly aquired L128, he's not eating much or even appearing aggressive towards food. I've tried all sorts of veggies. I've tried to flashlight him with lights off and I never see him eating. So I'm going to try garlic extract, however I noticed some extracts have a REALL...
