Re: L-236?

Hi Everyone! Sorry to drag out this old thread, but I just wanted to check back. :)

It's been almost 6 years since I inquired about these. The general consensus in 2011 was that they are not L-236, they are most likely two different plecos, and they would be easier to identify when they are older ...

Re: Hypancistrus ID, inspector?

Hi!!

if the import comes form Colombia then yes it does look like L201

Cheers
Yann

I have no way of telling where they are from because I don't think the plecos here are directly imported from SA. I assume that they must have been imported around the world before reaching the tanks of the ...

Hypancistrus ID, inspector?

Hello. These were sold to me as Hypancistrus inspector . They are clearly NOT. I was thinking they were either Hypancistrus contradens or Hypancistrus sp(l201) . Also, I do feel like I have a pair. What do you guys think, species-wise and sex-wise?

Re: L-236?

I know I asked for an ID, but I am pretty sure they are not P. compta. I do have P. compta, and they are different. These fish are much whiter, while P. compta is more yellowish. Also the black areas of these fish are much darker than P. compta's.

Mats, I do have a question. You mentioned black on ...

Re: L-236?

Thanks for your replies! I think you are right in that they are too little. In the tank where I got them, there was quite a variety of patterns of these supposed L236. I chose the 2 most different ones.. I just thought it would be cool to have some color variation in the L-236 that I get.. Hope they ...

L-236?

I recently got these two plecos. I was told they were L-236. They are about 1-2 inches from head to tail.

Are they L-236? Thanks!

Re: sexing bristlenose

Yes, I think my BNs are the standard, common Ancistrus cf_cirrhosus . I have no idea where they came from, I assume the store just ordered them from some distributer. I think in this case, knowing their true identity would be rather difficult.

Though after reading 'The identity of the common ...

Re: sexing bristlenose

I need a little more help guys.. Just want to clarify, if the BNs are around 9 months old, males should have bristles on the ridge of their snouts already, right?

I tried sexing them by looking at the body type, and it just confused me more. I guess I still don't really know what to look for (the ...

Re: sexing bristlenose

The fish are around 4-4.5 inches TL. I don't think they'd grow anymore than half an inch as I would assume they are around 9-10 months old. I will definitely try to sex them by looking at the body shape, although as mentioned, this would be hard if I have a group of only one sex.

As for bristles ...

Yes I've seen that FAQ. I've always had trouble sexing by looking at the body shape, I guess I'll give it another try.

sexing bristlenose

Ok, I've had these fish for 7+ months, and I am totally confused. I always thought sexing BNs was a straight forward thing. I guess as a beginner, it's no surprise that I am in this situation.. Well, here goes..

So I've been told (read somewhere) that getting 6 fish gives a fairly high chance that ...

Re: help with new acquisitions

Sadly, the 'thin pleco' died. I checked on him again, and it was quite apparent that he was a goner. :(
At least I know I did the 'right thing'. Might have been too stressed out, or might have been a problem that started at the shop, and deteriorated with the stress. I do agree with you guys that ...

Re: help with new acquisitions

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do have LOTS of wood in the tank he was originally in. The QT tank has smaller pieces of wood, but they are in there. I guess I just have to wait it out, and hope he survives.

If all goes well, I'll probably gonna be posting something soon about L204 sex confirmation ...

help with new acquisitions

Hello everyone,

I am very new to the hobby, only started taking care of plecos about 3 months ago. And only recently joined this forum/website. I recently bought a bunch of new plecos, 2 L204's, 2 L180's, a Baryancistrus beggini and a Parancistrus aurantiacus. Obviously I was worried the first ...
