Re: Acestridium dichromum (formerly New Arrivals)

I'm not a fan of chemistry either. I've kept a number of species successfully in planted tanks and spooned nitrates in with no problem at all. The hard thing here is, they're costly fish and to really understand, you need to buy two more, then make one change which is to stop feeding nitrates to the...

Re: Spawning Corydoras and shrimp

Thanks for that ApistoMaster, That gives me hope, I've set up this tank with a pile of Dragon stone and a couple of pieces of bogwood so it has abundant nooks and crannies and has ferns, small leaved anubias and plenty moss. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/25/ta8e4eba.jpg Thanks for the feeding tips...

Re: Spawning Corydoras and shrimp

Hmmm it would be a great shame to witness exactly what you've described. It will be a while before I'm catching the corys out of the big tank. So I'll let the 20 cherry shrimp I just chucked in there do a thorough cleaning job in there first. Doh! [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] It's fun catching ...

Re: L114 spawned fist time

Hi, Saw this thread when you first announced the success. How are things now??? Can you tell me about the cave please? How large? Positioning of it in the tank? Closed at one end? And what else is in the tank? Or is this purely a breeding type tank for a pair of these plecos? I have 2 L114 growing we...

Re: Spawning Corydoras and shrimp

Cleaning the eggs sounds like natures helping hand. I like that :-) I think I can pick 6 and get the breeders. If I'm not so sure, I'll go to 7 or 8 at the most. I was watching 3 fish together tonight that looked like 2 males and a female. Guaranteed though, when I want to catch them, they'll all be...

Spawning Corydoras and shrimp

I'm moving a group of spawning Orange stripe Corys into a 2ft planted tank fairly soon. I hope to see them produce a few fry and would really like to see them grow on in the tank. Would having Red Cherry Shrimp in there be of much detriment to the success? Also, my group is rather large at about 16 ...

Re: Using rainwater

Inspiring reading. Tonight I've just set up a 2ft tank in my new house and its been an established tank in my old place but now I've filled it with rainwater from a waterbutt already set up here. 10 litres of tapwater and the rest rainwater. I live about 500yards from a busy stretch of the M4 motorw...

Tanks Required

Hi All,

I'm in need of small tanks.
Ideally 18" but smaller or larger is good too.
Not worried about chips n scratches so long as its water tight.

Please PM me if you can help.
I'm based in the Reading/Newbury area, Berkshire. Could perhaps pick up from further afield.

Many Thanks

Re: Diving in Xingu

Your English is great! I'm very interested in the PH reading variances you spoke of. At what time of year, and how close to rainy season do readings of PH8 occurr??? Is anyone else interested in this????? Is it a change in PH more than water temperature in the rainy season that prompts a spawn????? ...

Re: Noisy FX5

At first I thought there was a part missing actually but it turns out there wasn't. But the bush was in upside down and the O ring beneath it, which is why it was making such a noise. I just hope if the bush needs replacing that the plastic housing it sits in isn't too damaged. He's been quoted more...

Re: Noisy FX5

Jim Putting the bush and O ring in the right way has apparently helped alot. He said its still not quiet but I've advised sticking a rubber mat under it and see how it is then. At least we know that it could just be the bush and O ring that needs replacing? Thanks so much for your help. As I read yo...

Re: Noisy FX5

Ah ok. Then I think we had it all. So the bushing goes in with the castle head bits facing down? Then the O ring above it? And that's it. So what stops the bushing spinning??? Should it sit tight against raised notches which are part of the orange housing??? If so, then on this filter these are gone...

Re: Noisy FX5

Jim

We don't have a bearing. We have the castlehead bush and the O ring, nothing else. He got the new impeller from a shop that had it returned to them by a customer who didn't need it. He's been robbed of a few bits by the sound of it!

Thanks

Re: Noisy FX5

Just been to have a look. What replacement bearing??? :-/ I think there's something missing on this one. We powered it up with the impeller dropped into the unit away from the filter housing. It rattled until I put a little pressure on the end of the shaft with a screwdriver handle. So it's like the...

Noisy FX5

Hi all, My friend has a secondhand FX5 filter that makes a horrible mechanical noise. It runs and looks to be working ok but the noise is too much and after a chat with someone at Fluval he purchased a new impeller unit. But, with the new impeller fitted the noise is still there. Any ideas????? Than...
