If you want a planted tank dont use a trickle filter, it removes to much co2.
A good filter for solids and high water flow and all med-larg cichilds( trickle filter)

it all depends on what you are going to place in the tank .
my rule of thumb "go big " in the filter department .
talk to people that have set up a tank the way you want- fish ,plants ( store or someone's home )
then the rest should fall into place

After doing a major tank overhall last night .
Found the snails have not gone i have just lowered the population( you could be right )
Hopefully still lowering, snails seems not to be a main problem in my tank ( 2 loaches keep them check )

I am thinking of a major move around in my big tank .
Reasoning for this is my catfish are digging under my driftwood and there is a good chance of being trapped.
I am about a buy some rare cats and i dont what them to have any chance of being caught.
