Re: Looking for quiet air pump. Any experience out there
The linear piston pumps that Jehmco.com sells are very quiet. They have one that can run 26 outlets. They are a little pricey but will last a long time.

Book Review Minor Issue
For the book review of Culturing Live Foods it says the author is "Nichael" R Hellweg. I hate to be a stickler about small details. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Michael R Hellweg. ![Big Grin :d](./images/smilies/4.gif)

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?
Nice update on the progress Viktor. I haven't had experience on the scale you are building but I've used lava rock in my filtration and several hundred pounds in my 350 gallon tank. There were several things I liked about it. I like that it is porous and has all kinds of surfaces for bacteria to gro...

Re: The hybrid Syno thread
I stumbled across this video today and thought I would share it for those who might not have seen it. This seemed like a good place to put it. Some of these crosses make no sense to me. In some cases the offspring look awful. The short bodied Synos are just gross. I never could get the video to post...

Is this perhaps the Real Syno Ornatipinnis?
Browsing youtube and I found this beauty. It doesn't look quite like all of the fake hybrid ornatipinnis I have seen. Could this be the real deal? Or is it something else?

Do you do regular water changes? Have you changed anything in your maintenance just before the first one died? Is there a possible contaminant in the water? Contaminants won't show up on a test kit. Contaminants are like household sprays & cleaning products, something you got on your hands and p...

Re: Malaysian trumpet snails - any thoughts?
That's a good one Dave =)) . I personally have never had any issues with MTS. However, I've always had loaches or Synodontis in all of my tanks. I wish I had more, the Synodontis eat them up like popcorn. Before I put Koi in my pond I would have loads of pond snails and I'd feed those to my Synos an...

Ouch! This is really bad. An apex predator of the magnitude of Wels being found in two separate locations could spell disaster for these ecosystems. One would hope these were single individuals released by a hobbyist (the thought of that just makes me cringe) but odds are there are many more out the...

I concur. This is commonly called a click beetle because when you hold their head or body they make a click sound trying to get away from their captor.racoll wrote:Alaus oculatus?

Welcome to Planet Catfish. I'm jealous that you live in MD, a lot closer to where the semi-annual catfish convention will be held later on this year. I'll have to make a 14 hour drive. What kind of cats do you keep?

How did you go about breeding these? Was it the lucipinnis cave & bowl of marbles? Or did they cuckoo spawn? They look nice & healthy, thanks for sharing.

I don't recall ever seeing F1 polli fry for sale. I would imagine they would be in the 10-15$ apiece range at 1/2 inch. I would be interested in buying some eventually. I'm in the process of moving house right now so have put a hold on any fish purchases.

These are not Synodontis granulosus. You have to look closely but there are spots in the white on the tails and dorsal. They are hybrids with one of the parent catfishes probably being granulosus.

As long as you have plenty of caves, they will get along fine. As long as they don't try to both claim the same cave. I've kept a raphael with my angelicus and they did fine together.

I blame it on Synodontis multipunctatus for me. I had always kept cats as a "scavenger" or a "bottom feeder". I had seen pictures of multipunctatus 100 times before. When I first saw them in a group of about 15 in a friend's tank, that was when the addiction started. I had to hav...
