Great find. They've been hard to come by the past couple of years. Where were you able to find this one?

I thought it was my imagination when seeing the pic in this PFK magazine of a Granulosa, but it appears to have the same head deformity.

Re: Where to buy brown bullheads for a pond?
This made me laugh. :d Here in Texas most people with a pond are trying to keep brown bullheads out. If it's anything there like it is here, they'll find their way into your pond. I've got a 2500 gallon pond that I never put any into and I've found 3 in the past 2 years about 6 inches long. And yes,...

Re: Bought as a "Blue Channel Catfish" But what is it really
Lake Malawi is near the Equator & stays in the 70s year round. He probably wouldn't survive in an outdoor pond.

Re: Bought as a "Blue Channel Catfish" But what is it really
If you paid a "blue channel catfish" price for him, great! Aquabid.com is a good resource if you're looking to sell it. They were selling on there last year for 100$ or so. Another common name is kampango catfish. There are aquarists out there who have tanks big enough to house one of thes...

I agree with Silurus. It doesn't look to be euptera, however may have a parent that was.

Re: Hybrid Syno Granulosa?
I have had 5, still have 3. The leading edges to the fins is the tell that it's hybrid, as Richard pointed out. They are getting closer to the real thing, though.

Hybrid Syno Granulosa?
I had to watch this one a few times because it is so close to the real thing. The OP of the video gave me the ok to post it here. The tail and spots just don't look quite right to me so I'm thinking hybrid. Thoughts?

Re: Help with Catfish Feeding
What kind of cichlids do you have? When I feed my mbuna I feed my catfish at the same time. I actually reach my hand into the tank and put food on the bottom. I understand if some don't like to feed this way, though. Another thing I have seen done is to use a piece of tube cut the depth of the tank....

Does anyone know where I can find Plotosus lineatus for sale? If anyone has purchased these in the past, I'm curious as to what they cost.

Re: Synodontis njassae?
Well lets hope they get the same study that the Tanganyikan's got and then we should know. Hopefully this comes sooner rather than later. I'm certain these are a genuine species if not absolutely typical of the majority of fish labelled njassae. FWIW, my opinion is there is too much that is unknown...

I tried to lure the ones here out with some New Era food to get a picture, but they knew what I was up to and just laughed at me. Apparently mine knew what was up, also. I tried and tried to get some good video of them but they apparently paid off the mbuna to get in the way of every shot. 1.Next s...

Wow Viktor, it's coming along nicely. Cograts and good job with all the progress you've made. I know, from spending the last year building a fish house, it seems like you'll never get done. Congrats and keep it up.

Re: Malawi Setup
I had to break out my BTN and salamander books. I agree, they look exactly like the one in BTN and very close to the salamander one. Mine don't look like these. Mine are a lot darker with a lot more spots. I wonder if there aren't several varieties in the lake. Either that or the ugly alternative.

Synodontis grandiops. There's nothing like their interaction when you have a nice sized school of them.

Re: synodontis nyassa playing dead ?
The only thing I've had similar to what you describe is when my tank got too cold one day. I had several synodontis floating and lost one. When I went to take them out they would swim back to the bottom. Once I got the temperature corrected the rest of them were fine.

Richard, were you ever able to find the post on the 2nd species of Malawi Synodontis? I recently purchased 6 of them after putting it off for several years. They're nice catfish but they are the small spot variety & don't look like the one pictured in this thread or the one in the Back to Nature...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm gonna have to break down and buy Seegers' book. The German edition has tempted me a few times b/c it's almost half the price. Curious About Synodontis Victoriae
I have been curious about Synodontis victoriae for a few years. Perhaps some of you guys can satiate my curiosities. First, has anyone ever seen these available for sale. Second, I wonder if there is more than one species in Lake Victoria. My reason for this wonderment is that the picture in the Cat...
