Thatpetplace, Big Al's and occasionally Dr. F&S. TPP has the advantage of being a stones throw away, so stuff usually arrives the next day even with ground shipping. Big Al's is always cheaper, especially since they price match, but they always manage to screw orders up in one way or another. Fo...

To house a tank 48"L X 24"W X 18"H would be a good size. That works out to about 90 gallons. I wouldn't reccomend trying to house any other shovelnose species. IMO, it will be much cheaper/easier to buy a tank than trying to get glass cut, siliconed etc.

True. It does have two bars by the tail and spots getting stronger toward the tail though. HH is right, definitely not M. electricus.

When schall is sold with a common name, it is usually as a lace catfish. If you post a picture we can give you a firm ID. Beware... they grow quickly and are very aggressive when bigger.

Way ahead of you there. Jools is in the process of replacing the java frames with DHTML menus. These should be less resource intensive and compatible w/ more browsers.

Mike,

I too use Mozilla exclusively, and the buttons work fine. Sid is right, you probably have a bad/incomplete java installation. You can get the required files from http://www.java.com

Parrotfish100, don't forget that the fish needs wood in its diet to survive. Make sure you supply a piece that the pleco can chew through. Also beware that the sawdust the fish will produce will clog filters very easily. I'd think $300-500 would be a reasonable price if the fish is in good condition...

If you're careful you can bleach them to get rid of incumbent algae. A 5 pph solution of household bleach works quite well (1 part bleach to 19 water). Leave them in the bucket of bleach solution no more than a few minutes. We have destroyed quite a few plants by letting them sit for too long, but h...

The puffers will hassle the sedentary H. jerdoni to no end, de-finning them in short order. I made the mistake of keeping C. travancoricus w/ a few jerdoni and most were missing their tails days after being introduced to the tank.

If you can find "real" petricola, they are probably the nicest catfish in the lake. The dwarves are still charming, especially in a group. All three spp. (petricola, multipunctatus and decorus) are fairly peaceful and will co-exist without a problem. Just keep in mind the decorus will reac...

I doubt it. The charge is very localized, so a probe wouldn't do much good, and it's tough to get the fish to discharge in the first place. Don't go actively chasing the fish around and one should be fine with hands in the tank.

Yes, it can burn fishes gills. In general, it is not a good idea to use pure oxygen in a bag, because of the harm that it can cause and because there is no reason to use it. I have had fish in normal air filled bags for 72 hours with no ill effects, so a car trip home shouldn't be a problem.

No, won't be a problem. I have several, and they eat anything that will fit in their mouths, and occasionally things that will not. Fishing an oversized piece of shrimp out of a squirming fishes' gullet is not a fun experience.
