Dunno about the second one. Reminds me of some weird hybrids I have seen, but I don't want to call your fish one without being certain.

Sid, it looks like there is a bad router somewhere in the Netherlands that is giving you a lot of latency. It is taking 200 milliseconds to send a packet from PCat to you, which is the source of the slow down (for comparison, the same trip takes 30 milliseconds for me). Not much you/I can do about i...

The accompanying text has been available for a while here . The book is in th...

Royals are pretty pokey little buggers. I wouldn't risk bodily harm to both you and the fish by picking it up. Best way to catch a fish like that without sacrificing a net is with an appropriately sized plastic jug or cup.

You'll eventually have at least two dead yo-yos if you put a trio in a tank. Spurs behind the eyes + nasty temperament == disaster waiting to happen. For the best snail eating Botia, look no farther than B. striata. A much better community fish IME.

They don't need live food period. You can supplement a regular diet of pellets and dry/frozen food with live inverts if you like, but they should be given sparingly and not as a staple. Keep in mind pimelodid's stomaches in the wild are usually empty, so you do not need to feed everyday. Once the fi...

There is no way to be sure of the species without cutting it open :-) The caudal spot is helpful in IDing, but I don't have the paper that explains which markings correspond to which species on hand at the moment. The husbandry requirements for all the brown otos with tail spot are identical though,...

Feeders are a bad idea. As has been said before, tigrinus will take worms and shrimp. Feeding feeders only introduces possible sources of disease into the tank, something I wouldn't do after spending that much money on those fish!

H. microps is not valid. The basis of the description was the fusing of the anal and caudal fins, but the species is known off only one specimen, which is thought to just have a deformed tail.

Yes, it is a plotosid endemic to Australia. More information is available here. It gets kind of big and has a taste for live fish, so I'd be concerned about one snacking on anything it can fit in its mouth.
