Re: CSG Spring Lecture
I must try and find an affordable and practical way of getting to one of these CSG meetings, bit tricky being on the south coast and being car-less for almost 6 months!

Re: April showers bring May fry?
Would there be any value in treating the rainwater with Seachem Prime, to remove any "nasties" that may be in the water? We recently had our water useage changed to metered (rather than a set monthly fee related to the value of the house/flat) and while I've had three broods of Steatocranu...

Only new fish gone down to the 5x2x2 are my Pantodon buchholzi and female Aplocheilus Lineatus that had to be rapidly moved out of the Rio240 after a major panick... Re: Would you trust Synodontis flavitaeniata with small fish
Until the Ilyodon moved in two days ago, I used to think the Hoplos would never be beaten on the "eat like pigs" league, but even they are losing to some extent out to the goodeids! When I'm not overrun with youngsters (48 Steatocranus and ~29 Ilyodon) and so can juggle fish better, my pla...

Re: Would you trust Synodontis flavitaeniata with small fish
My four have become more reclusive over time (I was hoping they would make an appearance when you were here Mats, so I could show you their "bite marks"), last autumn in the 48x12x15 they were never afraid to come out at food time (two had worrying ballooned stomachs at one point), they st...

Would you trust Synodontis flavitaeniata with small fish?
I currently have ~25 ~1.75cm and 4 ~4cm TL Ilyodon xantusi youngsters in my 48x12x15, the parents of which had to be moved out yesterday plus my young 4-5cm Steatocranus tinanti pair into the Rio240, to protect the youngsters from being regarded as "live lunch" (especially by the tinanti)....

I thought they looked familar when looking at these in the other forum, having seen them locally at £20 a fish for <4cm SL babies! :-O Nice surprise by the sounds of things, only potential downside is they will need cooler and faster current conditions than Brochis. What tankmates have you got to go...

Cheers for that.
Lovely looking fish, just trying to picture a 16" catfish that should hopefully grow a little more and the minimum size tank it would need (approx. 80"x40"x40") is staggering!

I recently adopted "MartinS"'s Chaetostoma milesi and when she arrived, she was practically bleached out to an off-white colour. However, she quickly developed a golden brown body. I have so much more confidence that she is going to be around for years (she readily eats and has started hea...

Looking great, cobbles on top of the sand with boulders appears to work well, unlike my sand dune effect! I'm very much a novice in the Corydoras realm, having kept C. sterbai and their larger "cousins" Brochis splendens together for a while last year (because they both experience temps upto 28C in the wild), but I was recently shocked when I looked at the temperature collection data for adolp...

Synodontis at my LFS
Yet to get a good look at the catfish in question, but it looks like it probably is a 20+cm Synodontis notata, that appears to have been traded-in at the fish store on my mail delivery round. The shop keeper thinks it is a Synodontis decora, but from just seeing the last <1/4 of the fish, the body a...

Re: like big catfish? read this first!
I'm definitely in favour of proper identification at the fish store, with a photographed full size specimen next to a ruler/tape measure, I might go as far as to say I'd be happiest if the photo was a 1:1 scale. That way, the "innoscent buyer" knows exactly what they are letting themselves...

Thanks for all the feedback also do these catfish require live plants or can you use large leaf fake plants They love large open plan caves under bogwood to communally roost during the daytime. I've yet to try this myself, but apparently if you use stainless screws and suckers to securely attach so...

Re: Thailand Fastwater Biotype
Great to see them settled in and I notice the Pearls seem quite chilled too. ;) My concern would be the low amount of water rippling, I always had at least one filter output or powerhead heavily breaking the water surface, for the last year or so their 5x2x2 has had the FX5 (with a 22mm plumbing cor...

Just a quick update to write that I'm hopeful things have taken a turn for the better, no new deaths in the last two days, after four consecutive days of tradegy. While I'm still gutted to have lost the whole decora group; Steatocranus "dad" and one Synodontis nigriventris; I think the tim...

Re: Is it possible to rehabilitate emaciated Peppered Cory?
Is there any possibility of isolating the catfish in a quarantine tank, with some mature media and a filter? Having no tankmates to compete with to get food could make all the difference, if it is as weak as your post suggests.

I have several Visitherm DeLuxe (the glass ones). They work really well (they do give the temperature they are set to, and I have yet to have one fail for other reasons than my stupidity - no heater is safe against that, I'd say). -- Mats Not sure if they are the "deluxe" ones, but I boug...

Been attending to the tank since my last update and the worst has happened... Found the last and biggest decora youngster dead. Mike, I used Protozin, initially at half dose [3.75ml] because of having the Ilyodon 3-6 week old youngsters in there. However, after a ~75% water change yesterday afternoon with plenty of excess Seachem Prime (the API ammonia looked higher than the yellow 0 but less than the lime green 0.25), I the...

My worst fishkeeping day to date... Came back home from work to find two more decora and Steatocranus "dad" (who even last night showed no signs of symptoms) dead. Either side of dinner, another decora and a nigriventris (who looked in an awful state earlier this afternoon) found dead. Dow...
