Re: Marc's fish room build

Personally, I have had the best luck leaving the fry in the parents tank, until they are 1.5 inches +. I wouldn't worry about the flow it seems a lot for a tiny fish but they will find a quiet spot if needed. I wouldn't think corys or the rummynose would cause them any issues. Good luck.

Re: Marc's fish room build

Hi BRL, I'd suggest the same, leave the dad to it, I have only spawned Peckoltia compta once, the first thing I knew about it was finding small fry in the tank, at the point where they had already absorbed the yolk sac. More about my efforts to spawn them here: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/vi...

Re: Marc's fish room build

Hi BRLaquatics, Firstly welcome to PlanetCatfish! Thanks for your kind words, there was a lot of investigation before hand, reading many threads like this one, and watching lots of YouTube videos, which I hope helped me to avoid mistakes, and build things out better than I might have done otherwise....

Re: Hara Jerdoni nano tank

Hi Rocco, I've never kept Hara, but I have kept a few other fish, outside in a small pond in the south of the UK. The pond is about ~220 litres and above ground, so the temperature fluctuates frequently. I was keeping Scleromystax barbatus, and Mimagoniates lateralis (small tetras) in it last year, ...

Re: Marc's fish room build

Thanks Jools they seem to be settling in well so far, I'll add some more pictures and try to take a video of the tank when it's setup.

If you feel the urge to get some Neil has "loads" in at Pier.

Re: Marc's fish room build

Some new arrivals today, as the courier service are accepting fish occasionally. A group of 12 Mochokiella paynei for my Sierra Leone, Kassawe Forest Reserve, loose biotope which I am setting up, in addition to these there will be a group of Epiplatys annulatus (Clown Killis), and a group of Ladiges...

Re: Need more help with my columbian sharks please

I am not far from you in North Hampshire, near Basingstoke. Our tap water is very hard, it comes from a limestone aquifer, as a few others have mentioned, I use rain or RO water to mix with a little tap water, usually 25-30% tap and the rest rain or RO, that is because most of the fish I keep come f...

Re: Need more help with my columbian sharks please

There’s very little to no ammonia ... Does this mean that this aquarium was recently setup? If so please keep up large daily water changes (be sure to use a dechlorinator), to keep the ammonia as close to zero as possible until the filter has matured, this can take several weeks or more. Be sure to...

Re: Marc's fish room build

A few updates on the Ageneiosus magoi . One of the larger females received some damage to her operculum, a chunk of it was missing with a clean cut leading up to it, hopefully this was caused by a male! It happened over a week ago, there are no signs of fungus or infection, and it appears to be heal...

Re: Stuby's fish room build

Very nice, I'd love to have that much space for a fish room, I'm already imagining what I'd put in it!

Top of the list would be a very long river/rapids tank along one wall!

Good luck keep us updated with the progress.

Re: Marc's fish room build

I haven't got to the bottom of that unfortunately, some of my thoughts which I haven't tested yet are: Something in the water - I would hope unlikely due to the small amount of tap water I use which is filtered through an HMA system first. If it is this, it's probably something I couldn't test for/d...

Re: Marc's fish room build

Hi Elhank, Welcome to Planet Catfish! Thanks for reading through the thread, glad you enjoyed it. The tap water here is hard, it's actually been a while since I tested it, usually coming out at a TDS of ~300ppm, pH of ~7.8, one of my main concerns is that I have 40ppm of nitrate in my tap water. Tha...

I have been following Leandro's videos for a while, since I met him at an event a while back, a very nice guy. These videos keep getting better, the thing I enjoy most is getting a good look at the natural habitat of the species a lot of us keep. Although not catfish, the Leporinus in this video loo...

Re: Delonix regia seed pods - aquarium safe?

Thanks Eric and Dave. To my non-scientific mind that paper says that the mature seeds had previously been assumed to be toxic, but it seems the results of their study showed them to be edible, albeit with a cardiovascular risk due to a high sodium to potassium ratio. I think that means the pods shou...

Re: H. debilittera project

I would think that your water should be ok for them, and most loricariids.

I haven't kept Hypancistrus debilittera myself, hopefully someone who has can offer advice, but I'd say you are on the right track.

Good luck.

Delonix regia seed pods - aquarium safe?

Hi Everyone, 20+ years ago while on a family holiday to the Caribbean, Jamaica, I believe, I picked up and brought home one side of a large curved seed pod, about 16-18 inches long. While looking for something else yesterday I found it in a box and thought it'd look good in an aquarium, rather than ...

Re: H. debilittera project

Bonjour Jeanne! Welcome to PlanetCatfish. Re: Error message when using species search

I get the same on my android phone, it appears in the background, behind the stuff which should be on the page.

The search does seem to work though and the error isn't there on the results page.
